    I have learned a trick. I like to pack my pipes tight, because they have small bowls. So, when using the air pocket method I insert a thick pipe cleaner into the bowl, and pack tight. The pipe cleaner seems to insure that there is some space for air in the bottom.

    I have read that the drug store blends in the tubs are better than the ones in a pouch. The theory is: The tub tobacco doesn't need the preservatives in the tobacco to keep it from drying out.

    Sour pipe (pew)!

    All pipes need to be scrubbed down with your alcohol of choice every couple of days. I didn't know this when I first started pipe smoking, and all of my pipe got sour. Now, I use scotch or whisky and scrub them with pipe cleaners.
