Trouble With The Police And Your Pipe

I remember once ages ago (early '70s) when my cousin took a bunch of blobs of pine pitch, melted them together into one big block, then carefully hand-ground it into a pile of fine white powder (Your pine tree may differ). He then put it in a baggie and shoved it into his car's glove box. He...

Trouble With The Police And Your Pipe

I remember reading a news article some years back where a police department got sued because the guy who did best on their entrance test was not the one they hired. The department won the court decision that it was OK for them to hire from the bottom of the applicant barrel if they so wanted.

N.C. Earthquake Centered Near Dr. Grabow Factory

I remember the last big one here in Maine! Back in 2001 we had an earthquake about 2-3 miles down that measured as a 2.1 on the Richter scale (or was it 2.7?) Nothing fell down, but those big diagonal braces under the roof of the building I worked in rang out like somebody plucking the guitar...

    Peterson Spigot xl90

From the descriptions I've read about this sump, it seems that both Wellingtons I have, as well as a Dr Grabow Omega, have something very similar.

Any Online Retailer's Shipping to WA.

It seems that Maine is joining Washington state in banning mail-order purchasing of certain tobacco products, but so far I haven't found out when it is supposed to go into effect. Since I have yet to find any real tobacconists in the state of Maine (Dad's in Biddeford is now a cigar store)...

I'm Seriously Thinking About Taking Up Religion!

Just don't join the "Society for the Preservation of the Ten Commandments" in Africa. Back in the late '90s and early '00s their leadership ran a campaign of visiting various of their own congregations during worship services and setting fire to the church buildings after blocking the exits.

    Isaias

Started getting the rain here in Greene, ME early in the evening. Had a neighborhood blackout from 11 pm to about 9:40 am this morning. We have bright sunshine at the moment. I'm guessing Isaias' remnants turned farther toward the East than earlier thought.

Happy 230th Birthday to the U.S. Coast Guard

Had a shipmate who served on one of those 82-footers off 'Nam, and apparently it wasn't uncommon for him (their GM) to be called on for a mortar bombardment ashore.

UFOs, the Pentagon, and Tin Foil Hats

I suspect that the most common reason why a government would "investigate" something it itself is doing, is to whitewash the public perceptions and to obtain any evidence for destruction.

Something I Never Thought I'd Do

How well does this work with blends that turn out to be heavily gooped-up with propylene glycol? I had one black cavendish purchase that never dried out at all no matter how many days I left the lid off the tobacco jar (after shaking up the contents to make sure different bits were at the surface).

    Tropical Storm Isaias

I always thought that the term "high ground" when coupled with the place "Florida" was supposed to be an oxymoron. Is it true that the highest elevation of land in Florida is 300' above mean sea level? Even in the panhandle? Of course, Mean Sea Level ain't down where it used to be any more.

    Pipe Rack For Home Office

What with all the threads on making one's own pipe racks, it struck me the other day that I've never seen a store-bought or home-made rack as yet which had the holes chamfered from below. It's possible that doing such might be helpful for putting one's pipes in and out of the rack.

What To Smoke Out Of An XL90

Well, this thread blows me away! The only XL90 I've been aware of was a small point-and-shoot digital Pentax camera I used to have (and may still have it in a box somewhere?).

    Pipes of Clay

OR . . . use Burt's Bees lip balm on the end of the bit and you're getting both a wax and a chap-stick-like coating in one go!

That 70's Show VS. Happy Days

I did enjoy the storytelling of Happy Days, and liked several of the characters. Marion Ross was wonderful as Mrs. C. When I tried watching That 70s Show, it didn't take me long to not be bothered to tune it in any more, as I didn't find any likeable characters and it wasn't particularly funny...

Fire And Explosion On The Bonhomme Richard

It really wasn't all that many years ago that one of the boomers was in Portsmouth (NH) Naval Shipyard when a yard-worker pulled an idiot stunt and set fire to the sub. The fire pretty much destroyed the boat from stem to stern,

Fire And Explosion On The Bonhomme Richard

I always remember that one story (true? apocryphal?) of the U-Boat that was sunk by potatoes. Supposedly, some of the mess-cooks of an allied warship were on deck peeling potatoes, when they noticed a U-boat alongside with its hatch open. While they began hollering at their own crew of the...

And Missouri Meerschaum pipe stems (if one isn't looking for a Forever Stem) aren't all that expensive.

How Did Tobacco Arrive in Egypt 2000 Years Ago?

Since ponys can 't swim that far, you don't suppose it might have been shipped by Dolphin Express ? ? ?

Really Weird Funny Video Featuring Pipe And Garfield.

I watched about 8 minutes into it, and I find I must misquote Freud with "Sometimes a cartoon is just a cartoon."
