March Meerschaum Madness - Let the Madness Begin!

All the conversation has been great as I’ve been thinking about cake. Only 4 bowls through this meer, but, it’s starting to color. I’m sure it’ll slow down, but, hey… fun to see some color.

    Dear English blend lovers,

Much respect for any and all grunts. I was in the Marines, but in a comms/support role for 1st battalion 6th Marines in Afghantistan 2009ish. I was humbled to say the least in what I saw from weapons and alpha companies, and will always have a special place in my heart for the grunt. That...

What to do with Pipes that Just Don't Click?

Yeah, I can get onboard with that.

What to do with Pipes that Just Don't Click?

By technique I'm assuming you mean a technique tailored to the particularly pipe? If so, I guess I never really thought of that. With these two pipes I used the same "technique" but they tasted light years apart. Myth or not, I cannot tell, but anecdotally, they sang differently.

    Dear English blend lovers,

I smoked cigarettes while in the military, but can't remember their taste really. I'm ashamed to say, I smoked Newports primarily. Interesting to think back on taste. I don't think so with most of the burley blends i've tried, although perhaps a little with Haunted Bookshop.

What to do with Pipes that Just Don't Click?

Title says it all. I've been an a virginia/vaper run for a few months know and decided to try some of my favorite English Westminster. It, just, sucked. So much so, that I filled my dunhill with a bowl and did back to backs, before realizing it was the pipe. In the dunhill it was amazing. In...

    Dear English blend lovers,

I've had great luck with HH Burley Flake: nutty, earthy, creamy. To me, I prefer it to Old Dark Fired, but, I enjoy both.

March Meerschaum Madness - Let the Madness Begin!

So glad this gem arrived today: I pinged Said asking if he had a specific pipe, and he hooked me up by finding something he had! First bowl, Carolina Red Flake 2022. The flavors are… brighter!

    not tasting!

You could also be learning that aromatics don't match the smell, so there can be a certain disappointment which colors the whole experience--I remember that well. I think the bottom line is it takes time to develop your palate, cadence, rhythm, etc. No one goes from squatting 135 to 405...

    Carolina Red Flake Is Yucky

I've changed my tune with this one. At first I was mildly disappointed, but, I tried it in my little 60's era dunhill bulldog which has a tiny bowl, and, well... it's completely different: that "cranberry" taste others mentioned in reviews came through with some pie crust/cookie flavor with a...

    Which Tobacco after Which Meal?

Ha. I wrote up a big response but it didn't really add much. The only thing I really consider is whether I want a scotch/bourbon and choose one or the other. I absolutely loathe a pipe and whisky. It's never worked for me as a pair.

    Plastic in Capstan

Makes me nervous as I recently (a few months back) purchased 15 tins to age: hoping there's not a surprise waiting for me a few years down the road...

    I'm in!

If you're anything like me, your tastes are going to shift quite a bit. When starting out, the heavier the latakia blend the better (pirate kake, etc...). It was (and is) just such a unique and fun flavor. I guess my own beginner advice would be to come back every once and a while to a straight...

    The Beast

Decided to grab 3. I know apples to oranges, but I picked up 3 of the red flake and felt a little meh on them. Again @JimInks review kind of pushed me over.

How Many Flakes Per Oz PS Luxury Navy Flake

Would the idea be to just throw the baccy in and seal it up? For instance, I get a shipment of, say, 6lbs... depending on bag size, I'd just throw it in, assuming with the original plastic wrap and all, seal it up, and done sir done? Reading through this thread now: Long Term Tobacco Storage -...

How Many Flakes Per Oz PS Luxury Navy Flake

Well, I mean... now I kind of have to. In all seriousness, If I contented myself with Elijah Craig or Evan Williams for a year, and drank through my scotch reserves... I could make this happen. I'll call it: the 50 year plan, and I'll chunk it up into lbs. So, 125lbs of tobacco can be divided...
