There are different ages and qualities for bog oak (Morta) pipes.
The cheap ones are 2 to 5 thousand years old (as determined by carbon 14 analysis), and look like a block of cheap chocolate. They don’t smoke well either.
This one is an exemplary 8-10 thousand year old material. Different than briar, the grain grows parallel and smokes dry, cool, with a superb fragrance.
Notice the patterns of the grain.
