I found the Terracotta stain a little different from what we've seen. The current Terracotta looks more like the 2023 Natural, than the 2021 Terracotta. The dark smooth is the same dark brown we've seen for 100 years.

Mine came in the mail today. A heritage. I'm normally not a fan of that finish, but the price was right and I think it works well with this shape. It has a stately appearance. I love the p-lip on this one, too. The whole thing has compact but robust proportions, which is exactly what I like.

I have a 2022 POTY in Heritage, which is real close to what 'Dark Smooth' is now. I think they introduced the 'Dark Smooth' finish the next year, and made 'Heritage' much darker.

...or maybe it's all random.

My inaugural bowl was outstanding - a two match affair, lasted about an hour. I love the new bowl coating, it yields a perfect first smoke than cake starts almost immediately.
The above 2022 POTY was the greatest first smoke ever. I lit it up on the way from Portland to Seattle, and smoked it while driving, for an hour. Hoping the 160th is that good.

Folks who get hour-long smokes out of 1 bowl that size are a wondrous mystery to me.:) Heck, the longest smoke I can get out of 1 of my magnum pipes is a half hour. I'd get somewhere between 15 and 20 minutes with pipes that size.

It does not happen often; thus, my remembering it. It could also be the dampness of, and the way we rub, our tobacco?

It kind of got me in trouble. We were meeting some old friends in town for the holiday. I was supposed to be getting dressed and ready to leave, but the bowl kept smoldering (outside on our front porch, 75 degrees, beautiful day). I was smoking some jarred 965 (2015 or so).

I got a little over 1 hour out of my Pete XL02 last night. But it wasn't always like that.
I got my hands on some Old World and it's a bit dryer than I usually have. But prepped right and gravity fed, I'm finding that I'm getting lots more time this way than before. I would have never let it dry on purpose like that on my own.
I've had a similar experience with a completely dried out tin of Full Virginia Flake. I tried it as an afterthought. It actually has been quite nice.
Edit: actually not an apples to apples comparison. The XL02 has quite a larger chamber I see now. But I am getting a lot more length on my sessions than before! Still improving.
Cheers
