Some things do not fall into the categories of either good for you or bad for you...

The whole anti-smoking thing is due to the rise of authoritarianism and the mob of people who support it.

Democracy is kicking our asses... our founding fathers tried to prevent it.

It sucks to be a minority when democracy rules... and we are one.

When the USA wanted Canada to become the 51 state they never took the true threat into consideration!!

That was never a serious consideration. It would never be a good fit. Ever. We are just fine at 50 and visitation with our neighbors in the Great White North.

I am all for recognizing Alberta's independance if they manage the impossible and finagle their way out.

Come on! We are writing about a nasty habit we've chosen. nothing political about it. There is no defending smoking, it's a vice and a very anti-social one at this time. It's not a right, we smokers have simply decided to continue. Self-flagellation? I believe so.
Disagree. This forum is the place for just such communication to be posted. Just because tobacco is villified and a vice does not mean we cannot discuss topics like this. We know better than most that the boogeyman tobacco is bad, but generally not as bad as it's made out to be.

Alcohol is way worse, and treated way better.

And besides, it is better than the 83rd post of some topic we have all seen before.

Alabama's restrictions on smoking in public seem not much different that the other 49 states: Frequently Asked Questions - Clean Indoor Air Act | Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) - https://www.alabamapublichealth.gov/tpts/faq.html. Or are they ignored such that you can smoke anywhere in offices, restaurants, bars, or near entryways, so that every place is a smoking area? Or have your expectations just changed?

I don't know about Europe, but compared to Asia, the US is damn near smoke free.

The longest lived human being, verified, smoked cigarettes until she was 117. She died at 122. Jeanne Calment - Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeanne_Calment

I got a ticket for smoking in my car in Alabama...

Judge threw it out because he'd never heard of it... the whole thing was a bunch of bullshit.

All this discussion is irrelevant, the real problem that no one seems to take seriously is the decline in pirates! Seriously, look at the chart here, the decline in pirates is directly related to global warming! This chart was researched and published by the FSM and his prophet "Bobby" and shows proof that these two things are related. Smoking pipes has nothing to do with anything (except personal enjoyment) but the decline in pirates is shocking in how it relates to global warming. This is something we should be worried about, and willing to help with by promoting the recruiting of more scurvy men and their wenches to start looting and plundering rum and gold in the world. This will save the planet!

Geese can hurt people.

Therefore, geese should be eliminated.

I'd hate to think that it was the decline in wenches that led to the decline in pirates.
That just couldn't be right...

I’m definitely suspicious of the medical establishment in some situations, no question drugs are over pushed for profit, not that others don’t save lives….

in this case inhaling smoke is more detrimental than the benefits nicotine provides IMO, but I’ve heard of more people mentioning its benefits lately. With pipes and cigars there’s less negative as long as you don’t inhale, so potentially more benifits.

You are right though they often dont present the stats in a fair light even with cigarettes.

How many times have we been over this same topic before? Many. many times, I believe.

And, I don't believe I ever suggested we cease discussing such subjects. But, it is observations over and over. It does appear to be what a few here love to discuss ad infinitum. So be it but, I also reserve the right to throw in my reiterated ad infinitum observations. These threads are sometimes seriously humorous and never to be taken serious, in my opinion. Entertaining at times? Yes, of course or, I wouldn't participate.

It’s the smokers paradox, brought to light again during covid .....

They’ve been trying to explain it for years, now they’ve polluted commercial cigarettes and a lot of tobacco with a buttload of toxic chemicals intended to make people that smoke them sick.

When I was smoking a pack a day of camel lights my lungs were in horrible condition. I couldn’t even make it up a flight of stairs without stopping to catch my breath.

I switched to RYO and harvest gold tobacco and never looked back. Within a week of switching I was able to cough up a bunch of phlegm that was making it hard to breathe and completely got rid of the smokers cough.

My lungs have never felt better 😎

Unadulterated tobaccos are good medicine.

More reading enjoyment.
If you read it carefully, you will see this:
"Altogether we still consider that even if nicotine could have some beneficial effects..., the multiple risks related to smoking far outweigh the conditional beneficial effects of nicotine. "

Over the entrance to the temple of Apollo at Delphi (the equivalent of any major teaching hospital in the ancient classical world) we are told, was written : 'MEDEN AGAN" (do nothing to excess) and 'GNOTHI SEAUTON' (know thyself).

Sound advice, I think, for the smoker, the drinker, the foodie, alike. In other words, too much of anything will ruin your health, and you need to know your own limits and not fool yourself. The other side of the coin was expressed by that doyenne of the music hall, Miss Marie Lloyd, in her immortal song: "A Little Of What You Fancy Does You Good".

Currently we are experiencing a change of fashion in social morality where (as the 2ndC satirist Juvenal put it) what were once vices are now virtues, and what were virtues are now vices.

There you go. That's my display of erudition for the day :) And I haven't forgotten to mine JSTOR for medical research papers on nicotine...

At the beginning of the summer, I contracted COVID, which left me without my sense of smell and taste. At the end of October, I got the flu and COVID vaccines, and the side effects knocked me out for about three days in bed. After a few weeks, I caught a cold, which kept me in bed for almost a week. In December, I got the shingles vaccine, and the next day, the side effects left me in bed for three days. Damn my luck, I'm starting to feel like smoking and having a few shots of rye. I believe that the best vitamin is B-52.images.jpg

Vitamin B3. Vital amine. Vital, without it, we do very badly. The other name for B3 is niacin. Niacin is a made up name to hide its real identity, nicotinic acid (why would they do that?). So, nicotine is necessary for good health. That's all we need to know.
Yes, and I read somewhere we can have almost any vitamine by drinking teas preferably those green loose leaf ones from far east
