Bought some in a fit of absentmindedness the other day, without first reading what anyone else thought about it. Well, I've tried it in two Meers, two briars and a clay, and maybe my palate has been ruined over a half century of smoking and my nicotine tolerance has become too high for me to appreciate properly the more subtle and milder Va/Per blends, but - meh.

The aroma of the unlit broken flake is pleasant, its texture slightly on the dry side of moist, it lit easily and smoked well, with a satisfyingly full volume of smoke.

The red and brown Virginias were there, all right, and a strong citrus tang all the way through the bowl - like a dark, coarse-cut Oxford marmalade, but I'm blowed if I could detect any spice from the Perique, or any complexity of taste at all. To me it registered as a rather two-tone Virginia - and, not getting the nicotine hit I have come to expect, I guess I got impatient with it, so, as a parrot will - it bit.

I'd recommend it to anyone who likes their Virginias mild, and their Perique low. For someone who is an all-day smoker, this would be an all-day smoke. Similar to Old Gowrie. But just not for me.
