Now, Sun afternoon, smoking a pipeful from my "Odds & Ends" jar, which I've been adding to for about 20 years or so. Not many folks here ever comment on having "Odds & Ends" or "Bits & Pieces" or "Junk Jar" or "Scraps", etc. It's nice. Smoking in a Rossi 8804 Canadian rusticated.

Made me think of the upcoming Thanksgiving Day TV tradition, the Dog Show, always right after the Macy's Parade. Of course, all the dogs are purebreds. No mongrels, although mongrels (or mixed breeds) can be some of the nicest! Hey, maybe that could be a new, fitting name for an "Odds & Ends" jar ... the "Mongrel Jar".

And wondering how my Pipe Club brothers (haven't yet had any girls attend) would react if I brought some "Odds & Ends" to share. All the tobaccos brought to share are straight up purebreds, so to speak. Yeah, maybe I'll find out in Dec. Craig? Ted? Ben? Steve? Eric? Glen? Maybe my contribution will crap the bed, but again it's a good smoke. :)

A quarter of the way through this bowl of year 2014 Dan Tobacco Hamborger Veermaster in a straight smooth brown Algerian briar post-WW2-mid 50s family era Barling’s Make Ye Olde Wood Special 301 T.V.F. Made in England EXEL billiard with a tapered black ebonite stem. This pipe is from the estate of David Cuneo. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

Stunning little pipe! In my limited time today in post reviewing, I'd say that of the last 4 pages of posts, this is the pipe I'd most like to own! Classic, smaller bowl, and very elegant design. Bravo!

Earlier smoked an Oliva Serie G (?) perfecto seconds while “fixing” the fence then some 08 Nightcap in the Pete 338, and I just wrapped up a bowl of my own Virginia/Perique in the Lone Star Briar Works seconds Devil Anse. Now watching the Cowboys curiously holding their own against the Eagles. I wonder if the Eagles are feeling sick today? Seems odd! IMG_9817.jpegIMG_9822.jpegIMG_9823.jpegIMG_9824.jpeg

Catch Up Smoking Post - In the midst of a massive cleanup for next Friday's Film Festival with the guys, and for today I returned to my usual MM Minicob with Capt. Black Cherry, and am just lighting up a Kwiki Chocolate Cigar as I type, for my typing/posting ritual.

Several smokes of note in the past two days, all involving this set of pipes:

IMGP6590RoppFalconOPT.JPG

Started yesterday off with the Ropp Etudiante J06 in the middle of a muddle of Falcon stuff. Had a fine smoke with this fine pipe loaded with Brigham (Mr. B's) Shamrock Treasure. This pipe is not only one of the best, if not the best, small pipes I have, it has a penchant for very flavourful aromatics like the above Brigham mix, Autumn Evening - that kind of thing.

Then onto the Falcons. I have two frames, the traditional straight with the dental mouthpiece, which I love. This pipe is the workhorse of my big travel kit, and is always fitted with the shown Bantam Bowl, which I have biased for Lats only. Had a round of Arango Balkan Supreme in it. The pipe delivered with it's usual aplomb. Just a great smoke, indoors for the almost always outdoors pipe.

Switched over to the bent brown frame, which is the one I usually smoke indoors. Shown with my new bowl, which is doing the break-in thing with Capt. Black Dark Cavendish. Actually not a bad smoke (I've had two with this bowl) for this wretched process. However, did have an earlier, and absolutely superb smoke with the solo bowl pictured, my meer-lined bowl, and it gave the usual stellar performance with about the only tobacco I smoke in it, Backwood's Buttered Rum, my definite favourite of the breed, which usually brings on a "Mehhh . . . " from me, to be quite honest. To me, Backwoods has a bit of real substance to it. Two thumbs up.

Don't know about the feelings of others with respect to Falcons, but they seem to just get better and better the more they are smoked. For a while, I wuz "ho-hum, okay," but I seem to be smoking them more and more. I'm going to be giving the large bowl shown on the pipe to a buddy who is buying a Falcon, and in return he'll be buying me another Bantam Bowl, which suits my penchant for about a 35-40 minute puff as being ideal. More on this in . . . . . .

Skippable Drivel. Shown here are my only two remaining "pimping pipes." Sorry guys, but I'm Just gotta tell ya'll I'm a bit more conservative than you might think, BUTTTT . . . . .

I'm about to change my entire posting process. With a little help from one of my forum gurus, @Choatecav, I requested in a PM that he recommend to me three top notch books on Pipe History, Pipe Lore, and Pipe Shapes. He did so, and thanks so much, my friend.

I'll give you a musical analogy. There reaches a point in your knowledge where your own personal "feelings" are simply not good enough. I learned, in developing my repertoire as both a professional performing violinist and pianist (I play both instruments about equally well technically but my piano skills developed more as an accompanist than a soloist), that one should take history, era, and knowledge of such as the basis for any really valid commentary. There is a heckiva difference in commenting on, and playing, let's say a Beethoven Violin Concerto, and one of equal merit, say the Bartok or the Sibelius violin concertos, written 150 years later.

I just don't have this kind of knowledge pipewise. I've been basing my opinions and posting on what I like personally, rather than taking historical fact, design, traditional perspectives, and different styles.

No more. I think I was in danger of becoming a blowhard, a species I intensely disliked in my professional career. I learned this in my late university days and early performing career. Took a while, lots of exposure and lots of reading, listening and studying.

This is going to be a process of developing and metamorphosing. Won't happen overnight. So, I'll suspend the KEWPIE and in depth commentary until I'm ready for such ventures. And I'm looking forward to the process, as I'm also an academic. I floated the review on the Dan Jubliee Tobacco I did recently as a trial run for myself, kind of like a first year university essay.

'Nuff Said. I'm going to just post smokes and poutpourri and venture forth with blowhard stuff when I'm ready. You'll all know what I mean, eh???? 😃

See ya'll tomorrow - big project now is cleaning up my disaster area, and getting over the eczema/type II itch i got from overindulging in forbidden fruits while I was canning/drying/freezing, lol.

Oh yeah, I'm still frustrated switching back and forth from two editions of my processor, GIMP. Can't adjust the balance between the two systems. Pics from the new one today are just too dark on this forum :poop:
