What tobacco might serve when my favorites need a rest?
For example I'm fanatical about all Oriental forward English blends.

Well I look at blends in Pillars.

English
Vaper
Burley
Aromatic

Oriental Forward English I refer to as a Balkan and in the English Pillar.

I'd go Vaper or Burley before Aromatic but that's because I don't smoke those much.

Another category that might fit the bill is VaPerOrs -- Gl Pease has a couple of good examples, Missouri Meerschaum, and probably some others I'm forgetting. You still get that savory Oriental note, but with the citrus, stewed fruit and spice base of a VaPer.

wish to smoke something different? What do you mean by "...when my favorites need a
Yes. Tired (temporarily hopefully) of favourites. Want to switch so I can come back to my favorites refreshed

Happens all the time. Just grab something you've not smoked in a while. Keep some codger blends handy also.
Maybe just go back to a codger blend to rest your palate or try something you have never had as this just might open up a new genre for you.
Codger blends, yes. I find that a mix of 50/50 Lane Burley Light and lane 1Q really resets me. I reckon Prince Albert, Carter Hall, and many other sweet burley blends would satisfy.

I smoke by the seat of my pants. I have a good jar rotation, enough that I have to try and exercise super human discipline when it comes to opening tins. I will think of a random taste while working and then I start thinking about it until I can get home and smoke it! Sometimes it will be pretty random, other times I stick with a "family" of blends that are similar. It is good to really get to know a blend by smoking it consistently, especially ones you only like a bit but aren't disgusted by. Something I can't seem to do. But get out there and explore!
