Morning All,

I’ve been debating buying a Deerstalker from the Peterson Sherlock Holmes line, and since it isn’t a system pipe I’m a little curious about the ease of running a pipe cleaner up the stem. I do like p-lips, but only have them on system pipes that I can take apart at any time. I’d appreciate any feedback on how difficult it may be to run a pipe cleaner up the stem if I get any gurgle. I’m a wet smoker which is another reason why I like the p-lip. Thanks in advance.

I find that the thinner Dill’s-brand pipe cleaners work well with my p-lip stems, as I can snake them down from the mouthpiece unlike thicker cleaners. I have a non-System Sherlock Holmes Milverton with a p-lip stem and it works fine for a mid-bowl stem swab if needed.
Agreed

It really depends on each pipe, it shouldn’t be to difficult, I’ve had straight or semi bent pipes that was harder to run a cleaner through than my SH Baskerville that is definitely jaw hanging Oom Paul

I run regular pipe cleaners through system (bent) stems all the time and simply have to be careful and hold / push from very close to the bit. Not a problem, really.
I have a Deerstalker (2nd one) and have / had no problem with either. But neither do I recall that it had a gurgle issue. Haven't smoked my current one in a while, and temperature & humidity changes make a difference for me...

I do this with many other pipes but this would be my first non-system with a p-lip. What would your praises or criticisms of the Deerstalker be?

I don't grab it often because it's been warm weather and I walk around on my property lots, sit very little, and mostly clench. It doesn't clench for me.............. It's style is more for when I'm sitting; which some get to do all the time and I choose to do very little.
