Some of the new p-lips do lack definition. Here's the p-lip on my 2023 POY. I also like a sharp, crisp shelf to the button.

Below the stem I rec'd and the replacement that Peterson gave me (thanks SmokingPipes!).

Here’s the bit on my pipe. The top looks to be in between your original and replacement. It’s rounded but still has enough definition to to catch my teeth.

I’m just really curious about what makes a great P-Lip.
@ashdigger may have a different/better answer, but this has been my experience up to this point in time:
They feel great and smoke great.

I don’t know about the acrylic modern system stems, but the couple acrylic straight stems that have come through (and out of) my possession had so-so airways, drilled into a square face on the tenon, and were prone to gurgling quickly if pushed at all.
In my relatively limited experience I’ve yet to find a pre (or early) republic p-lip that didn’t hang well on my teeth, be comfortable above my tongue, and have a width that was out of my “Goldilocks” zone.

The Short Army line of 2023 has stems designed by Giacomo Penzo that all had graduated bores of patent spec, and were what I feel all modern P-lips should aspire to be.
YMMV

The modern PLip has a stem that just in front of the actual Plip is oval/round-ish. The older PLips are flatter less oval-ish just in front of the plip.

Here are two modern pipes. One is the absolute piece of shit driftwood that it is the 02. And the other is a drop dead gorgeous 20s.

The “rounding” is so bad even my bourbon infused photos show it

Here are the pre-Republics. I tried to show a variety of pipes to help to see the visual differences.

So you dont like the rounding then? I almost want to put my smooth rounded acrylic plip stem into my silver spigot, but the draw is off then haha.
