I have the bad habit of, when a package arrives from an etailer, of digging out the goodies and carefully stashing them, and tossing the box aside on the basement floor.
'Tother day I decided to start working on that pile of boxes, so I carefully broke them down, sorted through all the paper packaging, and set it aside to recycle.
Today I started collecting the bubble wrap, and what do I find? A baggie with an ounce of tobacco in it, carefully sealed still from the etailer, and labeled "Holiday Mixture" in black marker.
I opened it with some trepidation, assuming that it would be dry as dust, but it was not at all. I jarred it, and then tried to figure out what it was.
After a bit of research, I determined that it must be the Sutliff Match for the old Holiday mixture. I'm enjoying a bowl right now, in an old apple from Campbell's Smoke Shop in East Lansing. I bought this pipe for $10 back in '72 or '73, which was a nice chunk of change, in those days.
The 'baccy ain't bad - it's the sort that I might buy 8 oz of and reach for every now and then. puffy

A number of years ago I was in Overland Park, Kansas on business and stopped by Cigar & Tabac Ltd., a favorite there. I asked a gentleman behind the counter if he knew if Holiday Pipe Mixture was still available. He replied stating the he did not know, but then proceeded to introduce me to the Sutliff representative who happened to also be in the store.

The Sutliff rep. explained that Holiday Pipe Mixture had been made by Larus & Bro. Company, the maker of Edgeworth Ready-Rubbed, but that the tobacco and the company were both long gone. He then stated that Sutliff offered a match to it called Holiday Excursion and offered to send me a sample. I gave him my name and address, but doubted that he would follow-through.

I was wrong. A few days later I received in the mail, free of charge, an eight-ounce tin of Holiday Excursion, and found it to be excellent!

A great company and a fine tobacco; I miss them both.

Did something similar last week. Had 2 similar sized boxes in the house, one had trash from a room cleanup, the other (2) 8oz tins of Quiet Nights & pound of GH Brown Flake Unscented. Got the boxes mixed up in a hurried clean up & tossed one out. It lightly rained that night, fortunately I found my error next morning. Thankfully the vendor wrapped up the contents in a plastic bag.
