I have 10 Peterson Sherlock Holmes pipes and many other Petes which I love. But have recently decided to give up on smoking my LeStrade only because it clogs soon as I look at it and not worth the hassle. Rather like its shape but something about its design doesn't work well for ease of smoking.
The One Peterson Pipe I Wouldn't Recommend Buying.

I have all of the SH pipes in various finishes. I. Hate. Them. All.

Lestrade's the only SH pipe I have which I'd call a bad smoker.
I really love the Deerstalker shape a lot. Have four of them so far and they are all great smokers. Will probably go for a Rathbone or Mycroft next.
I bought a Peterson Sherlock Holmes 315 in Cork, Ireland. I was so happy with that pipe - but it burned hot. Hot enough that it started to create burn areas in the bowl. I found it so upsetting that I finally tossed it. It makes me mad because it was actually bought in a special place I enjoy in Cork, T. W. Murray.
C'mon. Of all the Holmes characters...what else could one expect from the shape named 'Lestrade!?'
I'd be happy to make a reasonable offer for a Professor if you're interested in selling.
Maybe the drilling is off? Mine is a great smoker. No gurgle or clogging. I wish I had the whole set because all the ones I have are good smokers.
My Rathbone was troublesome when I first got it. Smoked wet, and I'm not a wet smoker. But it straightened out, and became a good smoker. On the other hand, my Squire is one of my favorite pipes. Smoked fine from the outset. Love the shapes of both, which helps in the appreciation, I suppose.
Most likely it's not drilled well. The fact that some smoke well but others don't backs that up.
Get some needle files and open it up.

I hate hearing that.
I’ve had a couple bad Pete’s Circa 2000 forward so It hits home.
Fortunately the only SH I have smokes like a champ.
Personally I’d drill and file it and open it up. Nothing to lose and a possible correction could be accomplished.

I've heard that from several people. PipesMagazine forum is definitely a horse race.
Both my Lestrade are really good. So I'd say, @irishearl that the bottom of your chamber is a bit too narrow.
For the first time in many moons I smoked my Lestrade and it did not clog throughout my smoking session. So, I guess there's hope for it yet.
