...and have in the past said some highly uncomplimentary things about the 1792 flake (which I stand by)...

My first experience of a GH blend (1792) was so negative, it might have deterred me from ever trying any more..

You had me at dissing 1792... lol

Excellent review of the Rum flake. Your experience matches mine, but you put it so eloquently. I also get a lot of nic from GH tobacco twists, but I have a low tolerance, so I turn green way sooner than most.

Thank you and keep reviewing!!

My first foray into Lakeland Territory was Kendal Flake. I had heard the term "Granny Panties" thrown around so often on here, that I wanted to see what this Lakeland thing was all about. The box it came in reeked of that rose smell. Everyone in my house was concerned, and we all agreed that it smelled like my grandma's bathroom soap, those tiny pink ones that they bought back in 1940's and never changed, nor did they lose their scents.
I was flabbergasted that MEN smoked this stuff. It was so old lady smelling. It was inconceivable, ha ha. I was drawn to rethink my whole concept of Englishmen at that smell. I still have some of that flake. I don't think GH makes it that strongly scented anymore. If they do, they shouldn't, ha ha.

I picked up a dry shampoo for my Anatolian Shepherd that hates running water. Try bathing 120 lbs of "get the fuck outa my yard" by yourself, when all she wants to do is latch onto your face and spin like a Nile Croc. Anyways, so, all I have to do now is put this powder on her and brush it in, but it is rose geranium also. So, now I have a large blood thirsty dog that smells like grannie panties, ha ha. She's my Lakeland bitch. But, when people smell her they always ask if we use those small pink soaps grandmas all have... ha ha.

I'm going to resurrect this mostly dead thread to comment on a 8 year old jar of this rope that I opened this weekend.

Wow, talk about a iron fist in a velvet glove. It has smoothed out greatly from how I remember it when I first smoked it. No pepper or spice on the retrohale now, just a very gentle easy going smoke with a hint of maple/rum.

That was until I realized it was too late, when it started to dawn on me the nicotine had kicked in, and then it just kept building. This was just a third of the way in on a relatively small bowl. The pantry had to be raided for chocolate.

It is noted that I routinely smoke large bowls of Dark Flake and 1792, and feel good afterwards. This was a whole other level. I probably will need to cut this with some Cavendish or Virginia going forward.

You're probably joking, right?

Englishmen also wear pink shirts, something I picked up myself after living there for many years. Every time I wore a pink shirt I got tons of compliments from random women in the street (in Greece, as in Switzerland I borderline live in the woods). Greek men wouldn't be caught dead wearing a "girly" colour, of course, there're far too manly for that!

Cosmic wasn't joking. My guess is that, sometime around the late 18thC/early 19thC, the perfuming of tobacco such as the GH Kendal types, was a gentlemanly attempt to minimise any olfactory offence to ladies when a chap took a nicotine fix in their presence. I can quite understand that, although personally I would rather just step into the smoking room or go outside, to light up some tobacco that actually tastes of tobacco... though of course it may be that many men liked - and like - their nicotine, but (unaccountably to me) dislike the tobacco taste and smell. This might also explain the pernicious and antisocial habit of those depraved souls who enjoy a vape by enveloping themselves (and anyone else within yards of them) in a noxious cloud of banana-and-custard, pineapple, or bubblegum-tainted steam.

Dunno, I feel the "granny undies" thing is a bit tied really and still think cosmic was joking. Anyway. I actually haven't fired up a Lakeland in a while, maybe tomorrow I've hit some Coniston Cut Plug :)

Neither the rope nor the cut tobacco evinced to me any olfactory trace of the rum casing, which leaves me wondering how it compares with its cousin the non-aromatic Brown XX Twist.
They make a few different "flavors" and in all those I've tried, the casing is almost non-existent. It certainly does not detract from the pure tobacco essence that a rope provides. I like them all a lot. BTW, I heartily agree with you on the 1792. I understand we all have different tastes, but for me it's quite repugnant stuff.
