Our featured interview on tonight’s Pipes Magazine Radio Show is with me. I am the owner and founder of PipesMagazine.com, which launched in 2009 as a resource site for pipe smokers and pipe and tobacco collectors. The site has numerous articles from well-known pipe authorities as well as the largest and most active community discussion forums, and of course the podcast. This is an extended interview where Brian and I will talk about the Chicago pipe shows from the past as well as the current show that just took place this past weekend.

The question on everyone's mind, of course, is whether he puts on his best suit for radio interviews, or wears a back-row one from last year.

I guess it takes all kinds. Usually when I smoke my pipe I'm just in a pair of overalls and no shirt.

For the first time ever I’m trying to be cool like Dino and make a comment on the main show page and I’m getting this. Any suggestions?View attachment 391018
It is a separate login on that part of the site, and it can be a diferent password. I sent you a password reset email. It is system generated, so check junk if you don't see it.

Pipe shows are like Christmas and I don’t just mean there’s a lot of presents. It’s a joyous time where everyone is welcoming, caring, and giving. People are sharing some incredible blends and knowledge out of the goodness of their heart. There’s an air of positivity that’s unmatched. It goes by faster than you want and leaves you looking forward to next year’s show as soon as this year’s is over.

The first Vegas show I attended I knew some of the bigger names in the hobby already, so when I got to sit down with them and have drinks and a pipe I was originally in awe. It was like sitting down with Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Bono from U2, Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones, and (just for you Brian) Harry Connick Jr. After a while though it was just hanging out with some really cool fellow pipers.

Again, Congrats to Jeremy and Dave on their Doctor of Pipes and Tom and Pete on their Master of Pipes. Also, want to give a shout out to the Battle of the Briar contestants. Everyone finished on time. Ping made an incredible blowfish, Silver made a fantastic sitter, and Nathan Davis made a really good freehand Dublin-esque shape. It’s always fun to watch these highly talented carvers work. Thanks to Jeff Gracik and Missouri Meerschaum for putting this together.

I was all signed up for the Pipe Show this year, but the new date hit on the last week of classes at my college, and I had to cancel. Maybe I can get my students to grade their own assignments next year. ;) Thanks for sharing your adventures at the Chicago Pipe Show!
