Listen up.

Mr. Rustie got smooshed between a motorcycle and a car... and the car got crunched while he (in relative terms) walked away.

His outline was clearly visible on the car.

Think about that.

It was witnessed by members of the public, and the docs who patched up the ouchies he did sustain were astonished.

Then, those individuals were somehow convinced to remain silent about what they saw.

And today a campaign has begun to erase the entire situation by returning to "normalcy".

You do the math.

Welcome back, and yeah it could always be worse. I’d heard rumors of bike wreck, and after a quick google of obits I figured you were on the mend.
And yeah, I’ll be that guy…..

How’s the bike?
lol, not “that guy” at all. I’m a vintage bike guy so, my fist thought as lay bleeding on the pavement was (MY BIKE!)

Honestly the bike didn’t fair to bad, I think most of the impact was absorbed by the 240lb cushion wrapped around it. 😂

It was in far better shape than the Mercedes that hit me. It was to quote the police “inoperable”. My bike and I ripped the entire front bumper and radiator sub support off.

The bike will live on after some panel beating, paint, and minor repairs.

Well, unfortunately I don’t have great insurance. So to save money I provided the materials for the doctors to put me back together. So I’m mostly century old pipe parts. Instead of titanium, carbon fiber, and space age alloys. I’ve been reassembled using briar, meerschaum, ebonite, and old Kaywoodie stingers.

I roam the streets at night fighting crimes against pipe restoration. I’m known as the Vulcan-Knight aka Robo-Ropp.🤖

I feel for you. I took out a horse, 200 feet of pavement (side walk translated into American) a front garden wall and porch on my Brough Superior motorcycle back in 1987. They say your whole life flashes past you, if it did I got bored watching it after a few seconds! Glad to hear you survived everything. I have never understood why even after the most horrific crashes one's first thought is 'Where is my bike?' as opposed to 'Goodness I am alive!'.

Rustie, I think of you every time I see that little red "1" on my email notification here, because of that dead link to a pipe rack you sent me, ha ha.

I was kind of hoping that you had grabbed the box pass and fled to Mexico to live out a life of luxury on the beaches of Cozumel, with a lifetime supply of diverse tobaccos, ha ha. I was living vicariously through my imagined life on the lamb.

Whoa I’m glad you walked away from that. Us two wheeled riders, be it bad motorscooterists, or hipster cyclists like myself, are always in danger of bad drivers who are distracted by their cellphones while driving 4k lb cages. I had a guy in an suv on his phone take a left turn while I was entering a controlled intersection, with a bright front light going on my bike mind you, flip me over the hood of his shit truck causing me to fly over it and hit the pavement. Glad I had a helmet on, glad my expensive (to me at the time) bike was ok, and grateful to the other drivers who stopped to check on me as the asshole drove away. If I had more details I would have called the police for a hit and run but I was in shock and glad I was able to walk away from it. That was close to ten years ago but I still remember all of it to this day.

That wasn’t the only time I’ve been hit cycling but it was the worst. I hate drivers so much when I’m out riding. I’m glad you’re still above ground!
