All 1955's.
Starting at 11 o'clock and going CW

  1. Bruyere LB F/T
  2. Shell LB
  3. Shell 60F/T Grp. 4
  4. Root EK Grp. 4
  5. Shell 126 Grp. 3
  6. Tanshell 59 Grp. 4
  7. Tanshell W60 Grp. 4
I became obsessed with finding a 1955, took about 2 years to find the first but then they just kept coming. Probably had another 7 or so but sold them over the years..
Rob, that's one of the most impressive birth year collections I've ever seen. Do you smoke them at special times or are they just in the rotation with others?

Truth be told I don't smoke much anymore, I just enjoy collecting. I'll smoke any one of them from time to time, I don't have a set rotation.

I've been drastically pairing down my collection to fund my fishing boat and a house renovation.

Root Briar 41011 1977

Acquired in July this year, but I didn’t feel comfortable firing her up until November. I guess I didn’t feel my smoking chops were up to the task until recently. Whether it’s the marketing or actual Dunnie magic, she smokes beautifully, and I enjoy her thoroughly every time.

That's a beautiful grain pattern, for certain. I know you are proud to have this. Enjoy...........

Al, you have inspired me to break out my 1956 Dunhill shell for a seasonal special smoke.

I am so happy to have it and I'm so appreciative of my new found friend, Jim (aka @Grangerous) for making this acquisition possible.

As I sat and enjoyed a smoke of smooth C & D Winchester and it's blend of Red Virginia, black Cavendish and Burley, I let my mind drift back to all of the Christmas's both I and this beautiful pipe have seen since '56. Some wonderful thoughts and memories of loved ones that are no longer with me and also of many that still are. Very touching and special, indeed.

Whether or not you have found your birth year Dunhill or not, I wish you all a wonderful Christmas season and a healthy and prosperous New Year.

Given that today is my birthday, I broke out my "new" birth year Dunhill that my friend Jim (@Grangerous ) helped me to find last year. This is the first birthday that I have been able to smoke it and it was wonderful.

As a "tip of the hat" to Jim, I smoked a little C & D Burley and truly enjoyed the moment.

Below is a picture of me and the pipe, both circa 1956. I believe the pipe has held up better through the years than I have, ha.
