Castello
I agree that it’s likely from the 1950’s. Trademark is Castello’s lowest graded smooth pipe, regarding grain. “Castello” is mid-grade and “Collection” higher grade. I’ve never had a bad Castello! Nice pick up!- tschiraldi

What Was Your First "I Gotta Buy 5 Pounds of This Stuff!" Tobacco?
The blends I have 5lbs of, or nearly so, are PS Luxury Twist Flake, F&T Cut Blended Plug, F&T Vintage, F&T Cut Virginia Plug, Dan Hamborger Veermaster, and G&H Brown Flake Aromatic. LTF was the first I stocked up on, the others followed.- tschiraldi

Comfort Food Tobaccos

Loading Hours Or The Day Before
I just light it enough to cover the very top of the bowl. I don’t draw down into the bowl. I put the flame above the bowl and draw down so the flame just touches the top layer of tobacco, set the tamper on top and give it a little spin to spread the ash evenly and I’m done. Now it’s ready to go...- tschiraldi
