    Cigars to Pipes...No Looking Back

Welcome from Pennsylvania and New York. I started out with cigars in the early ’90s and smoked a pipe on occasion to mix things up. These days, I smoke both—pipes year round, cigars more in warmer weather.

***What Are You Smoking, April 2024?***

While I always love seeing the ancient Cutty pipes, it’s fun to see you smoking something other than the usual fare! I’m sure a pic of the stamps and stinger of the Kaywoodie will help someone here determine a date range of the pipe for you; the number of holes in the stinger and its stamps will...

    Show Us Your Blatter Pipes

At this point in time, I only have two Blatter & Blatter pipes. Patrick Blatter, the pipemaker, referred to this pipe as a Lovat when I selected it at the shop; it has no saddle bit stem; the shank is round, so it's not a Canadian (but, it was literally made in Canada). I would defer to its...

    Two Quick Questions.

I tried Renaissance on a rusticated Savinelli Long John Dublin 915 and a smooth Blatter & Blatter Billiard. The wax had a heavier solvent smell than I was expecting. It was much less wet feeling than the Le Crayons a Gratter Conservator and firmer to the touch than Paragon or Halcyon II. The...

    KAF pipe from Ukraine

I bought one of their stands a couple years ago that has a shallow well where my Old Boy lighter rests; it’s in constant use. I’ve yet to try one of their pipes. I was not impressed with any of the figural carvings I’ve seen thus far; for traditional shapes, there are more historical marques I...

What Are You Drinking? April 2024

Fidens and Other Half Brewing make great New England IPAs; some of OH’s can be 10.0%, but are so tasty, you’d never know it—they can creep up on you very easily. Other Half makes Pastry Stouts that are 16% and taste like chocolate cake. They go down too easily and pack a wallop.

Going to have PBJ (half Captain Black Grape and half Wilke Pipe Tobacco Peanut Butter) in an unbranded Austrian leather wrapped Meerschaum Billiard while I work on some illustrations for the next Weird Tales Magazine featuring Bram Stoker Award®-winning writers.

    Danish Sir Walter Raleigh

I first heard about this in November in this thread: https://pipesmagazine.com/forums/threads/is-customer-service-a-thing-of-the-past.101561/ This seems much more widespread an issue than before.

What Cigar Are You Smoking? 2024

To be honest, the Pipe TAD and Cigar TAD threads don’t hold a lot of interest for me. I take a peek once in awhile, but seeing boxes of tins or sampler packs other people bought isn’t terribly compelling on its own, with the rare exception of seeing some ancient tin score. I regularly check this...

What Cigar Are You Smoking? 2024

Having a Cigars International Original Cubans Belicoso, 6.0" x 54 on the porch. Wasabi’s claws were getting too long, so we took him to the dog groomer down the street. He’s so fidgety, it’s difficult for us to clip them, so it was worth the ten bucks and tip to have the groomer do it. The...
