    Changing Filters

I use filters in my Grabows (vintage), cobs, and Savinellis. If I'm smoking a tobacco that tends to bite (me), I smoke them in a filtered pipe. I ALWAYS toss them after one smoke, despite the recommendations from distributors to use them for 2-3 (or more smokes). I can't stand that soggy, stale...

Where Does Everyone "Cellar" Their Tobacco

I commandeered a linen closet in the upstairs hallway. It's all mine. I keep all of my pipes and tobacco in there (as well as humidors, unopened boxes of cigars, pipe tools and pipe cleaning materials, etc.). No sunlight of any of that business. It is awesome.

    Peterson Irish Flake

I agree with Brian64 that IF has more nic than JKP, although not drastically more. Further, in my opinion, IF has less than 1792.

    Peterson Irish Flake

I adore Irish Flake. If I was allowed only one tobacco, it would be this. Nice taste, stout, very little fuss, and NO bite.

    Porcelain Pipes

I have one that inherited from a relative. It's a double-walled pipe, half bent -- sort of like a calabash, but the top doesn't come off or anything. I am afraid to smoke it. The glaze over the porcelain has cracked all over the bowl, although that doesn't appear to have effected the pipe...

    GH Brown Irish Twist

Wow. I'm pretty impressed by some of you guys saying you smoke this stuff every day. Again, I can take the Nic hit. Is brown Irish twist the same as brown rope #4? That's what I thought we were discussing. The taste, I think, is pleasant but rather a one note taste. That one note is tasty. Mike...

    GH Brown Irish Twist

I have some and tried to smoke a bowl of this alone. Wow. I prefer strong Nic blends (e.g., Irish Flake, Jacknife Plug, etc.). SG Brown Rope No 4 is the end of the line, brother. I usually ADD some to other blends that I find weak. However, I have not attempted to smoke a "pure" bowl of it since...

    Bidding for Pipes

Haha, yeah Mike, it is ABSOLUTELY worth more than it sold for. I bid about $35 because I saw a comparable pipe go for something similar recently. I have a policy -- judge an amount based on recent history and current funds. It was a beauty and worth a LOT more than what it went for. If I REALLY...

    Bidding for Pipes

So funny that you posted this. About 2 hours ago, I got sniped in the last 5 seconds of a GBD auction. I was super disappointed, but here's the deal: enter the absolute MOST you are willing to pay and walk away. Constantly increasing your bid is a slippery slope. The psychology of the auction...

    P & C Great Customer Service

They are awesome. Last year (2012) in January, I ordered a P&C 2011 T-Shirt that was on clearance. A few hours after my order was placed, they called to tell me that they did not have any more of those shirts and were not planning on making any more. Then, they offered to have a one-of-a-kind...

    Layering Tobacco in the Bowl

Timely post. I was just thinking about starting a thread on this yesterday. I have a favorite which I much enjoy: Royal Yacht on the bottom and OJK on the top. I call it "Codger Cruise". Nice and tasty with plenty of N.

    Favorite Steely Dan album?

Yeah, Marotta's on there too. Should've mentioned him. He's a MF'er, man. They know how to pick drummers.

    Favorite Steely Dan album?

How could I NOT say 'Aja'? This is a drumming masterpiece. (Im a drummer myself.) Steve Gadd with the solo on the title track. Bernard Perdie and Jim Keltner also lay down serious groove as well on drums. Great album. Some of you have referred to recent concerts and the drummer. His name is...
