There's and aerosol spray called "Bees Wax" that is amazing for most any type of material and especially on wood.
However because it is a spray you have to apply it to a cloth first and then wipe down the pipe.
You certainly don't want the spray to get into your bowl.
Prevents wax build up.
I don't wax as I like the natural finish pipes obtain after awhile.
If the briar is really nasty, I use a small bit of olive oil to remove the grime and obtain the natural patina.
Years ago I smoked a lot of Kaywoodies with the stinger and for me they always smoked wet.
To unscrew it and run a pipe cleaner for me was a pain in the neck. I tried cleaning without unscrewing and that never worked for me as well.

Sorry to hear of your situation. I too have lost taste since the pandemic but I still have some enjoyment.
I agree any more than 4-5 tins represents a financial problem for some.
