    Official PipesMagazine.com Stuff

As the pipemaker stuck in the middle, let me just say that I agree with both sides. First, Kevin is well within his rights and we should have checked with him. On the other hand, the response was indeed heavy-handed, as are the disappearing posts and the deleting of Rick's email address. It...

    POY?

Thanks, everyone, its an honor. Since we have some time, I would appreciate any thoughts on colors or shank extension materials, and whether you like having choices in that regard or would prefer that they all look alike (to the extent the wood allows). To me it sounds fun to do some...

    POY?

Thanks for the compliments, Rick. I would be glad to do it if there is any interest. I have joined most of the pipe boards and this is the one I come back to everyday. Very down to earth, and still small enough where you don't get lost in the crowd.

    This is a Royal Flush?

Yes, I just sold a two clubs Becker on ebay, but I bought that as an estate for 150 and sold it many smokes later for 120 or so. As for the one I love, I don't love it $500 worth. One thing about being a pipemaker is that I understand there are a few basics that you need to know, but after...

My favorite Becker design is only a 2 clubs:

CAO Eileen's Dream - Pipe Tobacco Review

Interesting, in that I distinctly remember having a cigar of the same name prior to discovering pipe smoking. Makes me begin to wonder which other pipe tobaccos might work as a cigar. One could build a brand, for example, on some room-clearing blends. Call it "In Your Face," and market it to...

    Blow Dryers

Interesting. I do the majority of my pipesmoking while driving to and from work, a LONG way away, and frequently am ready to head out the door with no tobacco ready to smoke. So far, the best method I have found for an "instant" drying out process is ... uhhh ... hate to admit this ... a...

What English blends do you like and why?

We would never take advantage of currency crashes just to, say, pick up a pipe or two, although it could be getting close to time to check out buying some pipes from Europe, (that is, before all of the artificial stimulus disappears and our own currency goes straight to the bottom): 6 month...

Briar Pipe bent Kit: Tools and Preparation question(s)

I am not sure my advice would be particularly helpful since I have the pipemaking bug to the extent that I have tooled up considerably. The only thing I want but don't yet have is a sandblasting cabinet (thousand of dollars for a decent setup). Also, your questions are a little too general to...

Zippo or IMCO lighter? which one is better?

I'll stick with my Zippo with a pipe insert. I use a butane lighter sometimes for the initial char light, but otherwise not a big fan. It seems to burn a lot hotter than the zippo fluid. My biggest issue with butane, though, is that I hate filling a butane lighter. I can never tell when it...

    Carnuba Wax inside stem

Carnauba is a harmless, natural substance made from palm leaves, which is why we use it (along with the fact that it just dulls over time, as opposed to flaking). It is also used in cosmetics etc. and as a thickening agent in food. You could probably chew on the block if you wanted to do so. :)

Wow, thanks Duke. An inspiration to me, for sure. Got to go one year ...

    Welcome new members. Introduce yourselves.

Welcome new members! Maybe if I say that often enough my own profile will advance to whatever comes after "new member." By the way, Steve, tung oil and lacquer are generally frowned upon for use on a pipe, given that they supposedly "seal" the briar and it can't "breathe" thereby giving you a...

    Pictures of my pipes

The drill bits sold by Pimo are just ground down from a standard spade bit and then sharpened. If you have a grinder, you could make one pretty quick.

Putting my 2-3month pipe experience away.

I am completely convinced that pipesmoking is not addictive, at least chemically. I was out of town last week for three days with no pipe and had no issue at all when, on a normal day, I would have had 3 bowls. Of course, it might be different if you moved from cigarettes and inhale, but...
