On the Economical Operation of Light Bulbs

Another advantage of LEDs over CFL is disposal, due to the mercury in CFLs. This thread reminded me of a recent article over at the Beeb - it's most illuminating.

***What Are You Smoking, October 2023?***

Having some MM Country Gentleman in an MM... Diplomat. Should follow it up with some WCC Simply Orange (to go with the stem, of course).

    Zippo Butane Pipe Lighter Insert

I've been using one of the Zippo inserts for a bit now, and yeah the flint ignition is way better than any of the piezo lighters I have. Have to be mindful of where the flame comes out, when I'm used to my regular pipe Zippo. Only burnt my thumb once so far 😌

    Midsommer in a fancied-up cob.

    Show Us your Zippo Lighter

Some Zippos... the pipe lighter and the plain one (which has a Zippo butane pipe insert) are used regularly. The Steelers lighter was my (maternal) grandfather's, and if I recall the date code correctly, it's 1974 - first Steelers super bowl. The Elks lighter belonged to my paternal grandfather...

***What Are You Smoking, July 2023?***

Finally got around to trying Folklore (in a Stanwell BTW), and man that's good. Glad I like it considering that big slab will last me good long time!

***What Are You Smoking, June 2023?***

Enjoyed a bowl of Match Victorian in cob; now for some breakfast.

PS LNF followed up with a mix of GH DBE & KG, Xaymaca on the side. Time for bed...

    Question about mixing tobaccos.

Equal parts SWR and Sutliff 507-S stoved virginia is pretty decent smoke. One of those "I wonder how they'd work together" experiments.

    Oriental Blend Recommendation

Not that it's anything special, but I got some Newminster "Oriental Pipe Cut" when I wanted something to show me what orientals were all about. Not bad, and it led me to try WCC Glass Slipper and Simply Voriental.

What Is a Dried Out Classic Tobacco Worth To You?

Puts me in mind of an old C. M. Kornbluth story... "Would you buy it for a quarter?" Maybe, if I liked the tin.

In St Pete, Any Decent Pipe Shops Within 1-hr Drive?

There's Edward's in Tampa, and Bennington's in Sarasota. I've never been to Bennington's but Edward's is pretty decent. Pipe shops are scarce in Florida, unfortunately.

It's a Watch City day: Glass Slipper in an MM Diplomat for lunch, and Rouxgaroux in an MM Shire Cobbit for happy hour.

***What Are You Smoking, May 2023?***

Earlier had some 2023 WCC Simply Red in the Yello-Bowl prince, now working on some Brown Sugar Flake in a Stanwell. With some Sierra Nevada Celebration IPA on the side because it's Friday (like I need a reason).
