Stanwell gets criminally overlooked ever since their production was moved to Italy, but for your price range, their pipes are hard to beat. There are a lot of French manufacturers whose pipes are very affordable and well made, e.g. Chacom or Genod.- K.E. Powell

I started wet shaving with a DE Merkur 34c several years ago. One of the better decisions I ever made. Pipe Cleaning and Maintenance
This is also more or less my method. I've enough pipes in my rotation, and smoke only 1-3 days daily at the most, that a deep cleaning for my pipes is typically only required once yearly. The Flavors of Perique: Fruity vs. Spicy -- FIGHT!
I find, for myself at least, what flavors I pick up on depends on which other tobaccos in a blend dominate. If I am smoking a blend where the virginias are dominant, then I find it easier to pick up the fig-like notes. If it is the burleys/DFK, then definitely the pepper/spice notes are easier...- K.E.
