How long are the "scents" good for?

Thank you for the ideas. I've read threads on here about Latakia being stable for 10 years before losing some of its essence. Obviously lots of agree/disagree about that, but wasn't sure if scents have a similar rule of thumb. Interesting to consider that the Haddo's fragrance may not have...

How long are the "scents" good for?

Hi all! Newbie here. I was given a tin of Haddo's from 2001 and noticed it had zero noticeable topping, like a fresh tin does. I'm exploring Lakeland's and various scented blends, and actually like them. My questions have to do with cellaring scented blends. 1. HG bulk Lakelands - - if I jar...

    Gawith sampler?

I think I’ll treat it as an opportunity to try Gawith, but will be liberal with the trash can destination. I’ll also use it as an opportunity to experiment with rehydration.

    Gawith sampler?

They were bags within bags. There’s a lot of Lakeland scent going on. A lot of the sample are pieces of rope or hard plug. I suspect those have a better chance than the ribbon. Thanks all!

    Gawith sampler?

Hi all, I'm trying to make sense of a friend's pipe tobacco collection that was left to me. These 25 year old samples all seem to be about 10g. Any idea the history? Would these perhaps have come from trade shows, etc? A couple baggies say The Las Vegas Smoke Shop. As a new piper it seems like a...

    1999 Dunhill Standard Mixture Mild

Not terribly impressed with this one, middle of the road English blend for me. Good tin seal. It can't even tie the shoes of Redhead Decoy Duck.

    2001 Christmas Cheer

Very much appreciate your thoughtful post! I have been blessed to acquire for nothing a number of old tins like this, so thankfully it is not a cost issue. Although a very good case could be made for saving these old tins for when I become more experienced - if they truly are superior, etc. I've...

    2000 A&C Navy Flake

Good tin seal. Tin note of raisins and figs. Is that the perique? Rubbed out a flake and let it dry for an hour. Smooth, lots of dark raisins on the tongue, pepper in the retrohale - perique? Very good.

    2001 Christmas Cheer

How long are we talking here for its decline? I only smoke one or bowls a day and am trying a lot of different things to see what I like.

    2001 Christmas Cheer

Would you recommend fully rubbing out the flakes? How long of a dry time?

    2001 Christmas Cheer

I'll try the cube cut idea. Is gravity filling just dropping it in and keeping very loose?

    2001 Christmas Cheer

Great seal. Tin note of the ketchup thing, but don’t mind it at all. Some crystallizing on the flakes. Left flake pieces largely in tact and just stuffed, fairly tight. Extremely smooth, even creamy? I know this is outstanding, but lament I am not able to appreciate it’s greatness yet as a new...

2000 Butera’s Royal Vintage Blended Flake

Great whoosh seal on this one. Hit with that ketchup/pickles thing which I like. Delicious smoke, peppery in my nose. I think I like VaPers. Learning to smoke slow and be ok with lots of relights.
