Tongue Bite, Smoking Technique, and 9MM Activated Charcoal Filters

Honestly, I'm not sure of the science. Perhaps pH makes a difference, perhaps not. Perhaps if I was better at this I would stop getting bitten, perhaps not. In the end, I look at this through the lens of Occam's Razor. And in this case, the simple solution is to use 9mm filters.

Tongue Bite, Smoking Technique, and 9MM Activated Charcoal Filters

I too have gotten the sense that filters are viewed as primarily being for people who can't figure out how to smoke correctly. And there may very well be some smokers who gravitate to filters for just that reason. Hell, perhaps you and I have done so. Perhaps we simply can't figure out how to...

Tongue Bite, Smoking Technique, and 9MM Activated Charcoal Filters

I think this is the best advice you can give anyone, regarding anything. One of my favorite whiskey channels has the following motto, "The "best" whisk(e)y is the whiskey you like to drink, the way you like to drink it."

Tongue Bite, Smoking Technique, and 9MM Activated Charcoal Filters

As best as I can possibly discern, I don't think it was the steep learning curve that got me. From what I've subsequently read, the alkalinity of everyone's mouths are different and some people are just more sensitive. I *think* I fall into this category. I've attempted mimicking the cadence of...

Tongue Bite, Smoking Technique, and 9MM Activated Charcoal Filters

This post if strictly intended for any new pipe smokers who may be struggling with tongue bite. On two separate occasions, I've sold all my pipes, tossed my tobacco, and went back to cigars. On this 3rd attempt, I went back into the hobby even more determined. However, I just kept getting...

Best Tobacco to Smoke in a Castello 55?

Just out of curiosity... if you're of the opinion that dimensions have no relationship to blend smoking quality, what guided you in determining what to commission for a given blend. Cheers.

    Savinelli 6mm Charcoal Filters

I recently began exploring the world of 9mm pipes. What I discovered is that pipe makers ,like Savinelli and Peterson, make a lot more 9mm pipes for the European market than for the U.S. market. SmokingPipes has a European web site as well. They ship worldwide for €7 (flat rate) and for free for...

    How To Clean A Lighter?

I have a silver Kiribi lighter. Over the course of time, the outer part (near the flame) has become caked in black. What is the best way to clean this up? Thank you.

    Heavy Sigh

Not to be too negative, but would anyone who actually knew about pipes and the state of the tobacco industry choose to buy a B&M? It would seem such a business venture would only be more advisable than purchasing a Blockbuster Video.

    Rabbit Air Minus A2 Update

I've had one for years. I've had three guys in the room smoking cigars and by morning the smell is gone. Can't say enough about these things.

On How the Danish Will Destroy Everything We Hold Dear

That's interesting. Having only been into this hobby for about six months, I still tend to favor aros. However, I already have a half dozen pipes in the $200 - $300 range and can very easily foresee a day where I have a few in the $500 - $1,000 range. Investing that kind of money into my...
