    TAD Acquisitions 2024

@Terry Lennox no it doesn't - I believe Estervals is the only German based tobcconist that ships (shipped?) to the US at all.

What Type of Stems do You Prefer?

Vulcanite stem with drilled tenon. Both for the same reason. I like to restore pipes, and vulcanite stems are easier to repair because of the softer materials. And a drilled tenon is easier to replace. For smoking, I also go with vulcanite in general for the softer bite.

    Charatan Belvedere, lowest smooth grade??

That, or it was originally sold in Europe. The L stamp only appears on pipes sold in the US. And there were also non-DC stems during that period, though less common. Actually more likely than Reuben, because the CP stamp looks more like Lane.

    Dishonorable Mentions

Didn't take me long 😅 I think it's wrongly named for 2 reasons: - it barely contains Latakia - it's a Mac Baren. I rarely like Mac Barens but I do enjoy this one as a sweet tooth virginia with a little dash of Lat.

    Dishonorable Mentions

I would not discourage anyone from trying a blend unless I have sufficient knowledge on their preferences. If that were the case though, I would discourage any serious Lat aficionado from smoking SG Perfection. It's the most boring, dull, tasteless Latakia blend I've ever come across.

In What Year were You Born?

That's probably true, but I referred to the later years someone born in 1978 experienced. Can't speak about the US, but here in old Europe my perception is that both wealth and civil liberties have peaked.

In What Year were You Born?

78 as well. A lucky time to be young.

Who Taught You to Smoke a Pipe?

My first girlfriend's dad. He was a long-time pipe smoker and at her graduation party, he saw me struggling with my first pipe (Smoking was allowed, unbelievable nowadays). Then he showed me how to pack it properly, always making funny comments like "When you set the tobacco on fire, it raises...

    Charatan Belvedere, lowest smooth grade??

According to pipedia, the Chippendales are regular Belvederes sold through Tinderbox. https://pipedia.org/wiki/Dating_of_Charatans#Identification_of_a_fifth_era_pipe_.28First_Dunhill_era.2C_1977-1981.29

Moving From English Blends to Pure Virginias

Well, I try VA or decent aromatics from time to time, and smoke them with some pleasure. But my alldays are all English, and I rarely finish a tin of the others (except for Erinmore, Ennerdale and Daddy Gefftl) but give huge parts to people that are more into that stuff. So no matter how I look...

    Old European Pipe identification

I don't think anything was done with the bowl. The repaired parts start with the silver ring and the black ebonite structure above. Have you seen the image in your pn? That's how it looked like in the first place.

    Old European Pipe identification

Haha, not the slightest. I just had the impression that some things do not really fit and try to figure out why. I have done some research in the meantime and found some similar pipes. I send you a link per pn, as mods are not in favour of ebay listings posted here. Bowl and shank are from a...

    Old European Pipe identification

I would assume someone mounted the bowl of an ancient peasant's/hunters' pipe on a briar socket with a churchwarden stem.
