    Old Absurd Radio programs

Bob, just for accuracy's sake, and the coincidence that I'm watching "The Man Who Died Twice", a 1975 episode of "Cannon" right at this moment, the character Frank Cannon, and that unmistakable clear baritone voice coming out of a very solid, if ample body, in many radio programmes, along with...

A Message From Mike & Mary McNiel

I'm crushed. Not only do, (did), I use 5100 as the base of many of my own blends, it has been my 'go-to' tobacco for a lot of years. I've always trusted Mike and Mary wouldn't distribute a sub-par tobacco, but quality red Va becoming so scarce as to kill off such a popular product doesn't bode...

    Charatan

I prefer Charatan Make, (pre Lane/Dunhill made...Lane distributed [florid 'L'] are fine, Prescot Street. ie., late 1950s and earlier), to most English pipes, and English pipes to most others. Not to the exclusion of others, by any means, but it is a preference.

    Active Members Reply Here

Here, in fits and starts, but often lurking. Interesting...I've been a member since 2009, my blog and most of my old posts have been deleted, and I'm a "New Member" again. I almost feel youthful. Loquacity doesn't count, which is probably a good thing. -doc-

What Music Are You Listening To? - June 2017

Love PHC, and Garrison. Really love old radio, and PHC is a brilliant blend of the old and just old fashioned, with great humour, but reverence. Listened every time I could for about, yes, 35 years, often taping the show. I have a box filled with cassettes, and I don't mean a cassette box...

    Briar Polishing

I use a clean blue "J-Cloth" to give pipes, (and stems), a quick rub before returning them to the rack, a newer one if it needs a bit of a polish, (still has a soft 'tooth' to it), paying special attention to the rim to prevent any buildup, and an older, softer one for a light clean, taking care...

Miles Davis, "Jack Johnson", with 4Noggins Red VA in a sweet Gefapip, (St. Claude), "500" #21 straight, smooth, diamond shank Bulldog. and a not-so wee dram.

*** What Are You Smoking?*** (June 2017)

Smoking a new tobacco for me, 4Noggins Red Virginia bulk, in a very nice Gefapip, (St. Claude), "500" straight, '21' diamond shank bulldog, (a great deal of neat birdseye), with a dram, and Miles on the box. Not bad, quite 'one note', but a pleasant one, definitely no 5100. It will be better...

    Any old ASP members here

I spent time on ARPAnet for some years, mainly for academic uses, (and gossip), but it took me a while to even think of a pipe forum or BBS. A friend invited me to join a Usenet BBS, and soon found ASP in the mid 90s. I didn't post much there, but found the arguments informative and...

Jim's 43 years of Pipe Smoking.

Congrats on the milepost, Jim. I have a similar marker coming up in a few weeks. It may not seem it by the number of posts with which I'm credited, but some years ago, I had a blog here and was a regular reader and contributor to the fora. I lost track of this board, amongst others, for a few...

A Bewlay Pipe Thread With Pictures

Almost all of my pipe photos are on the hard drive of a tower desktop that died. If I can't get it running again, I'll have to put it in an older tower as I'm using a fairly old laptop now. The rest are on a Kindle Fire, (a gift), that stopped connecting to WiFi a week before it was a year...

A Bewlay Pipe Thread With Pictures

In the early 70s, whilst poking about a second hand shop, as I am wont to do, I came across a nice, walnut 6 pipe straight rack, in great shape. It had 4 pipes in it, all looking horrible. I bought the rack for $2.50, and she threw in the pipes, which was fine with me, as I'd already found a...

    Peterson Donegal Rocky Question

I see this is slightly late, so I don't know if you've discovered an answer as yet. Also, I don't know if this will help much, but I have two 80s, a smooth, cross grain with a 1998 hallmark, and a Donegal 'Rocky', with a 2001 hallmark. Both have crisp 'P' stem stamps, as does a 1970 'Kildare'...
