Why Did you Start Smoking a Pipe, and Why Do You Still?

I was a cigar smoker, and I rarely had enough time to enjoy one properly. So I started with smaller pipes with less smoking time to make better use of my free time. I've smoked very few cigars since.

    Revisiting ‘Royal Yacht’

I always enjoy this blend, but it never makes it into my regular lineup. Still I order a tin every year :)

    Morning or Nights

I don't really smoke many English blends in the morning. I will go with an all-day VA/Per or a VA with some condimental Kentucky. Then, Balkins in the afternoon and finish the day with stronger English blends. I really, really love Quiet Nights, especially with 2 years of age; those reds start...

    Capstan Blue vs Yellow

Yellow is fantastic, just different. You get more of a citrus note, and it's a tad sweeter with a little less body. 'Cause I smoke yellow in the morning And smoke blue in the afternoon Kinda like my old blue tickhound I like to lay around in the shade And I ain't got no money But Capstan has...

***What Are You Smoking, January 2024?***

Some well-aged Dunhill Flake and black coffee to start my lazy Sunday. I've played darts for nearly 20 hours over the last 2 days and my shoulder and wrist will need the downtime.

    Expanding pallet

I do not smoke the original tobaccos I tried, My recommendation is to buy a couple of different blends in the varieties that you are interested in.

***What Are You Smoking, December 2023?***

I had to try a bowl of Royal Twist, as I just got mine in today. Starts off a little spicy, Kentucky heavy, then as the bowl progresses, the VA/Per combo comes through, fairly complex and interesting. This will be fantastic in a year or two.

    2014 GLP Quiet Nights

This is a blend, when fresh, just didn't do a lot for me. However, after 2 years, it smooths out and starts to sweeten and became one of my go-to's in my English rotation.

***What Are You Smoking, November 2023?***

I was bouncing back and forth between Ascanian No1 and No2 this morning. I pulled some samples out before I mylar'ed the major of it. Absolutely fantastic smokes. I can only imagine they will get better with a little time,

Aged JA Luxury Flake vs Astley 44

This tin of Wessex Campaign Dark Flake is 2 years old and has been jarred for 3 months. From an overall flavor profile, Campaign Dark is a close replacement for Dunhill Dark Flake. The flavor profile changes dramatically as I proceed through the bowl. It is sweeter and more complex than...
