Almost a third of the way through this bowl of year 2021 Watch City Simply VOriental in a straight smooth medium brown 1930s Wilshire 5 bulldog (Comoy’s second) made for John’s Pipe Shop in Los Angeles with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Haven't smoked this blend or pipe lately. It may be a second, but it smokes as well as any Comoy's first that I own, and I own a fair number of them.

An Interesting Pipe, An Interesting Smoke: As I said I would yesterday, I'll post the initial smoke and a couple of snapshots of my new Old German Clay Briar Pot.

It's not quite what I expected in a Pot, but it was advertised as one, so a Pot it is. And it is a sweet smoker indeed, in spite of all. First the pics, and analysis underneath. The initial smoke was Smokers' Pride Black Cavendish, an aro I enjoy very much, both by itself, and as a mixer.

As you can see from the top picture, it's profile is nice indeed but, in the second picture you can see that the stem is more like a Canadian rather than the usual pot, and is also not only long, but oval in shape. The bowl is also very deep. So the long oval stem has to be considered in the break in itself, as part of the bowl.

The smoke was surprisingly delightful for a break-in, and as the pipe is quite capacious and the tobacco favoured by me and a cheap thrill, I've decided that Smoker's Pride Black Cavendish is going to be it. And I don't have a problem with this. So, for this pipe, fait accompli.

I'll try to get back later to do some retrograde commenting 'cause there are some beauties posted today and yesterday, but the doorbell has just arrived and so has the madding hoard.

And, to re-iterate, it is a sweet smoker indeed. I'll enjoy an afternoon hour with SPBC each time this pipe comes up in rotation. Cheers for now.

Now smoking year 2001 Murray’s Dunhill Navy Rolls in a brown rusticated slight bend 1982 Savinelli Estella Non Pareil 99 dublin military mount with a pearl brown lucite ferrule and saddle stem. I need to take a better photo of it so you can see the colors more accurately. Haven't smoked this once heavily smoked pipe in a few years. Lots of Navy Rolls went through this pipe over time although it was originally an Escudo pipe back when Escudo was made by A.C. Peterson.

Sampling some KBV Acadian Flek in an Amphora X-tra 813 author with Lapsang Souchong tea on the side. Love this blend!

My wife bought me some tobacco tasting journals for Xmas and I tried to use it tonight. It became evident quickly that I don’t know anything about what I’m tasting. I’ll keep at it and we’ll see. Oh, thanks once again to @TubbyInTweed for the sample.

Going to brave the outside temps right after supper. Won't be the the first time, but I'm eager to start breaking in my recent acquisition from @ssjones . I suppose I consider it as one of two pre-loved "Christmas Pipes" (in the sense of seasonal timing) to myself, both of which I purchased from him.

Thanks again, Al.

So I'm going with the very barbecue-y G.L. Pease Horizons to begin the process in this pre-Cadogan Comoy's #56 Matt Brandy.

Part way through this bowl of year 2013 Capstan Blue Ready Rubbed in a straight smooth brown 1933-1945 Comoy’s patent Grand Slam 127 billiard with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Haven't smoked this pipe lately. It's bigger than it looks so this smoke will last a while. Going to check on the ferals after this post. Daisy the Feral Princess has stayed inside all day, and has constantly wanted my attention. She's gotten plenty of that to the chagrin of Sleepy Suzy and Molly Danger. They jealously stare when Daisy gets rubs, scratches and rope play.
