That was a lady's shillelagh I got at an estate sale (a bit less beefy than a man's). I used to work for the company and the lady's daughter told me her mother once fended off a home invader with that stick. It is one of my more favored collectibles.

I don't know you, but I'll vouch for you (by which I mean, I'll send your contribution if you don't), just for the sake of your name. Orthodoxy was a pivotal book for me (which is beside the fact that I love his fiction, e.g. The Man Who Was Thursday), and we gave one of our sons the middle name Gilbert because he was born on a June 14 (the date of GK's repose).

@SBC that's funny, I was going to vouch for him on the basis of his name as well. He is a fantastic author. I need to re-read Orthodoxy. As a matter of fact, I'll do that in the evenings as soon as the world series is over.
