Near the last third of this bowl of year 2019 Prince Albert in a straight smooth walnut 1927 KBB Kaywoodie Drinkless 86 dublin with a tapered black vulcanite stem. This model was only made in 1927. This one will do it for me today. I was going to make my last smoke the final one, but Tomato the Brave belated showed up for his wet food, and he got a few treats, too. I gave him a little attention, and he went out. Dunno where Harry the Hairy is, but he wasn't in the cat house where he was snoozin' not long ago.

This is probably one of the most controversial blends out there. Opinions range from absolute dislike — “burnt burley with a strange wine note” — to high praise calling it “complex, mature, and deeply satisfying.” And honestly, I can see both sides. Sometimes it smokes smooth, with nutty, fruity, and brandy-like tones, and other times it turns harsh and heavy, especially in the first part of the bowl.
Pros: interesting cube-cut burley base, rich flavor, and great aging potential.
Cons: inconsistent performance, sensitive to packing and moisture, and definitely an acquired taste.
In the end, it’s a real mystery of a blend — unpredictable, moody, but always fascinating.😁

Began this soggy Wednesday with KBV Burlier Morning Pipe (thanks once again to @tubbyninja1337) in a new to me Moretti 55 I recently got from @petes03. What a fantastic smoke!

I don’t know if my brain has convinced me that this new pipe should smoke well or if it’s factual or if it’s all in the tobacco. I just know it was very pleasant. I’ll be looking for other Moretti pipes now. The Burlier blend is very tasty too!

Good Morning. Hardly ever up at this hour. Woke up at 3:00 AM and couldn't get back to sleep. Insomnia. It's 5:28 AM as I type this. Rotten rain out . . . two inches of slush now. Dave and I cancelled Wednesday range trip last night. Not shooting outdoors in this crap and cold, and indoor range don't open until next week for airgun. Nothing to do but smoke.

Started day off with cob, burley and cold coffee. Little guy from travel kit that happened to be on the kitchen table. Too lazy to go to living room to get the big cobb. Lighter was also in LR so used matches. Same great smoke though - chomping on a Phillie's Blunt Strawberry as I type right now. Nice.

Last night's smoke was the first trial of the now broken in Lubinsky Olive with an English. TobaccoBarn's Basic English to be specific. I had a feeling about this pipe and lat, and I was right. Didn't take to break in cavendishes, and didn't care for aros. The TB Basic was an excellent fit, and an excellent smoke of about 45 minutes. Perfect.

Looking forward to Arango Balkan Supreme or Presbyterian Mixture or something like these next round, but I'm expecting more of the same. Funny how certain pipes take to certain fodder.

No Skippable Drivel today - reviewing this post, seems like I did the SD in the opening paragraph. Will go back a few pages and do some commenting instead. Dawn is just about to break and it really looks crappier now than it did half an hour ago. Don't need to whine about it any more. It is what it is. I'll probably do some whining in another post later on this in-day. Nothing to do now but eat.

Cheers.

The last of a tin of Per Jensen Port Guardian in an Il Ceppo

The passing of a tin is always sad. So many tobaccos have disappeared I never got to try . . . . .

Last night I charlit a bowl of Sutliff 507-C in the vauen olaf bent egg, put it out and tamped the top. This morning it lit right up and I tasted all the flavors ... some member previously posted that they char light all their pipes for the next day the night before. Now I understand why. The tobacco marinates overnight and tastes incredible. I may have to start doing this more often. Strong and now very expensive columbian coffee and light cream for company - use to pay $7.99 for the 23oz can and now its $20.49 and going up due to weather damage to the coffee crop and tariffs. I may have to switch to the boxstore dregs which was never the same.

I always enjoy your take on a blend. Well written, informative, and just enough color.

I have not heard that before about charing the night before. May have to experiment with that..... thanks.
