A very hearty Congratulations to you both! So, I wanted to share this big news with all of you—last night, Susan and I tied the knot!
It was a beautiful night. I’d never seen so many stars in this area before (you could see more than just Orion’s belt and shoulders in the constellation). The little fire we had going in the firepit was very cozy and kept us comfortable.

Watching the broadcast of UFC Fight Night: Reinier de Ridder vs. Brendan Allen (also known as UFC Fight Night 262 and UFC on ESPN+ 120), taking place at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. I’m starting off with Savinelli Doblone d’Oro in the first Savinelli Ottagono, a sandblasted, black, Straight Billiard (sort of a Pot after shaping) Limited Edition (No. 359/550), with a 9mm orange and black craquelure acrylic stem (I’m not using a filter; I opted for a 3mm adapter). This first Ottagono in the series used new old-stock stummels (probably made from leftover Octavia 138 stummels).
I’m following that up with Savinelli Brunello Flake in a sandblasted, black, Savinelli Ottagono Due (aka Ottagono II) Straight Dublin Limited Edition (No. 63/600, selected for my birth year, 1963); our buddy, John, is using his Ottagono Due (No. 76/600, selected for his birth year, 1976).
Next up will be Savinelli Juno in a sandblasted, black, Savinelli Ottagono Tre (aka Ottagono III) Bent Billiard Limited Edition (No. 484/600, selected for the two 4s and one 8 tying in with the octagonal theme). This pipe is based on the Octavia 638.
I got John a belated birthday present and thank you for being one of our witnesses last night: this year’s eight-sided release, a Savinelli Ottagono Long Sandblasted 138. I got him number 448 (mine is 484). I’m having Savinelli 140⁰ in it.

My No. 484:

I hope it works for you. After a little practice, you might be able to tie them on in the dark. My other suggestion would be to pre-tie the flies to a length of tippet and change it out on an old leader, or use bulk tippet and bulk leader and change the entire fly/tippet/leader at the loop. They sell foam spools to keep everything nice and tidy. This time of year here on Long Island we're in the saltwater going for Striped Bass, Bluefish and False Albacore using 3/0-6/0 hooks and 20-25lb leader. I can tie these on wearing mittens in the dark. Best of luck. Thanks! I'll definitely get one . . . . hopefully will work on tiny files. If not, I'll have to go to 12's I guess. Depth perception is my main problem as I've lost my right eye due to a series of strokes about 15 years ago. I usually can "feel" but the tiny eyelets on these flies are nasty for any guy with the fine leader material necessary to pass through the eye of the hook. 2 pound test is about the max, and tying tapered leaders is a pain. Guess that's why very few use 2 or 3 weight rods . . . . Any suggestions on how to change the weather? A trip to Amazon.Ca will be done today to get this neat gizmo (I'm a sucker for neat gizmos).
It's been cold, wet and miserable for quite some time. October is usually a fantastic month up here. I'll simply have to catch-as-catch-can and weather reports are as unreliable as the weather itself lately. At least I can road hunt hares and grouse! If a clear day is in the offing, I'll brave the cold in my zodiac next week however. I don't stray far in lakes anyways. Most fish are caught inshore in the weeds, no farther than 30 feet out from shore for the most part.
Salut!
