Starting off my smoking day with a bowl of year 2024 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Never really slept, so I gave up, and am going on with my day. I've plenty to do. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

I'm feeling better for cutting down on plastic packaged items and I'd like to see others do the same. I've got a reusable cup for take out drinks and I've given up plastic packeted biscuits, chocolate, crisps, sweets & tobacco, for life! Cutting down on the chips to save money, improve my health & reduce plastic packaging. I've definitely saved a lot of packaging! Made loaf of bread yesterday; picked some pears last night & making a crumble with them. Having another plastic free day today; life's better without plastic!
We could do with a deposit return scheme for bottles, cans etc in UK like Germany & Sweden etc; my online friends in Sweden say there's a lot less litter than in the UK.
I grew up in Michigan and since at least the early ‘80’s they had a 10c deposit for soda and beer bottles and cans. You pay the extra 10 cents up front but then afterwards you bring them back to the store for the 10c back.
We would rinse them out so the sugars don’t attract ants and put them in bins in the garage and when they were full take bring them to the store and cash them in.
It adds up. In College we would do that after parties and get hundreds of dollars back.

@MattCC My parents say they used to earn pocket money from collecting pop bottles and taking them to the shop. The old bottle deposit scheme in UK ran from 1950s - 1980s. It seems most fondly remembered by people from this generation:

Did a set of walking reps, and am close to finishing this bowl of year 2016 D&R Three Sails in a slight bent black pattern etched 1977 Lorenzo Lorsan Sigma level top billiard with a gray swirl acrylic saddle stem. Harry the Hairy came in to eat even though I had put food out. He nibbled and is snoozin' on m'lady's chair. Daisy the Feral princess came in, ate and left. Haven't seen Tomato the Brave yet.

Ya, that one is late coming into focus for a lot of us who've lived entire lives without much of a concern.
I see the neighbors bringing home loads of plastic bottled water and always tell them about my Berkey water filter system.
I keep 'leftovers' in glass storage, no more tupperware. Filtered water in reused glass juice jugs, and I buy glass jarred peanut butter w/o hydrogenation.

A quarter of the way through this bowl of year 2020 Watch City Rouxgaroux in a smooth medium bend 2021 Peterson POTY Natural 4AB No. 6/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Getting ready to clean a few pipes.

@newbroom Good to hear! I still use some plastic jugs & storage boxes but I already had them and they aren't single use. Given up plastic packeted biscuits (cookies), chocolate, crisps (potato chips), sweets (candy) and tobacco. I re-use bread wrappers for my homemade bread and for opened packets of cooked meat etc.
Having a plastic free day today; when I went to Bakewell I re-used my empty sandwich box for my cake and bought some recycled paper kitchen towel (made in UK, paper packaging) and a can of 0.5% alcohol beer:
A Viking sounding beer that doesn't make you feel TOO MUCH like a Viking:)
When I went to Peveril Castle last week I took a measuring cup from a bottle of medicine for mead sampling, saving a single use sampling cup.

Looks great. Once it cures in, coat it with a water seal and it will seal in the color. Granted you need to re-apply the seal occasionally, but that is much easier than the stain.
Sound advice and I appreciate it. I used a water based stain and sealer combo. Restore A Deck, it went on easily and didn’t smell to high heaven. Probably not as durable as a dedicated sealer but saved a step. Time will tell.
