Truth be told it is a very nice pipe and one of my favorites. But I like the light colored apple a little bit more.You should sell that group 3 billiard (to me).
Today I sold the g4 to finance a future castello project. I found my self to almost always grab the group 3s for whatever reason so the g4 was mainly collecting dust.
I never sold a dunhill with a loss. Actually in some cases there was a profit, not much apparently. Obviously all my dunhills were estates.
A lucky estate Dunhill white spot buy unsmoked. The seller added a Dunhill tobacco pouch. Added my Dunhill lighter for the pic.
1966 Group 3 Shape 251 Root Briar with a rose gold wind cap, arrived today.
Craig, I dearly love that wind cap. Do you think that was an original feature of this pipe or retro-fitted?

Hard to say for certain. There are no visible marks that indicate the karats nor an AD mark that you might often see on silver, but similar caps have occasionally been seen on other Dunhills, with the main difference I have seen being the shape and quantity of holes. Unlike silver, such marks were not required on gold items in the UK in 1966. It sure fits like it was factory made. Definitely custom in any case. Rose gold makes sense as a wind cap as it is harder and more durable than regular 18k gold, even though its gold content is the same. It's also the type of luxury feature that Dunhill likes to feature. I'm assuming it's original.
I have a number of Root Briars, but this one has a rich color unmatched by my other pipes. It's better in person than it appeared in the auction.

My 1991 Dunhill Shilling arrived today. The pipe sports a star and has no shape or group number. The pipe boasts a lovely ring grain. I will fire it up this evening. 
I added this Cumberland 3303 as well.
They do make some great leather pipe accessories...
1973 Group 4 Red Bark. A birthday present from my lovely wife a couple years ago. Great smoker.
This Shell F/T EK had a badly cracked shank, missing dot, and horribly oxidized stem. It’s all ready for another 80+ years of service now.
1987 Tanshell 5109. It cleaned up perfectly.
IIRC, Foggy passed away a couple of years ago.
He was a brilliant creative guy and he loved his Dunhills.
