Sometimes, when I am packing a bowl, I will find hardened bits of stems and things mixed in with the tobacco. I usually pick em out and toss em. That just sounds right to me, is that what you folks do as well?

If its leaf I burn it, stem is still leaf for me.
It depends how big the hard bit is and how much it's preventing being able to load the bowl. Mostly I just leave them in.
If it’s too big to allow a good pipe load, I’ll usually chop it up with scissors and mix it in. As others have said, I paid for it, I’m gonna smoke it.
I don't find this often, at least, big enough to matter. When I do, I remove and discard it.
If it’s hindering loading the pipe it gets pulled and tossed.
I discard, also these are the veins of the leaf not the stem. Tobacco leaf stem is big.
I rub out my tobacco in an Acacia wood bowl that I use for drying. I usually pinch and break any of the little veins into smaller bits. Once dry, all the tobacco gets loaded into the pipe’s chamber and smoked.
Hell no! Break them up and pack em with the rest of the tobacco. If that doesn't work for you send them to me and I'll smoke em, no problem.
If I get stabbed while trying to pack the bowl, ill pick the sharp bits out.

Guess I’m the only one here finicky enough to yank em out and toss them. Really depends how big the stem piece is though.
You’re not alone- I sort through every bowl before loading in order to homogenize the tobacco. My theory is those stems act as little logs and burn hotter than the leaf which I do not want. After loading, any extra tobacco I’ve already sorted goes into my travel jar which is comprised of an ever-rotating mixture of various tobaccos. All part of the ritual.
It's a natural product. You find strings in a can of beans and sometimes silk in a can of corn. I just break up the tobacco veins and smoke them.
I usually don't find a lot of stems and leaf veins in by tobacco that need to get busted up to fit in my bowl. It all gets smoked.
I always discard stem pieces regardless of size or rigidity.

Size matters. I don't bother with breaking them up. If they're longer than the bowl is tall or if it's in my way it gets tossed, if it fits in nicely while packing the bowl it gets put to the flame.
