This morning and again this afternoon a bowl of 507-C in the Vauen Olaf bent egg. An earthworm/nightcrawler had died in the rain last night near my lawnchair ... about 5 inches long. I figured a bird would get it but no. A bunch of tiny micro ants came and started to consume it. They would cut and drag bits of dead grass over to use as ladders or bridges to get on top of it. At the end of the day its almost all gone and whats missing is covered in thatch. This is so brilliantly efficient and neat I may have to reconsider my burial plans. ;)puffy

Those little nasties finally drove me out of my berry patch yesterday. Sat down to get at the low branches on an absolutely loaded saskatoon bush, and next thing I knew, there were in my trackpants, on my feet, and yowzer, did they bite. Even got at my healed-up operation area, just above my crotch.

We're absolutely loaded with ants up north - hills everywhere. They'll clean up a rabbit in a week, and as you saw, drowned worms in a day. Whenever i go on a rampage with nests in my yard, I think of the stink that would be otherwise, and leave them alone.

As an interesting aside, I've had only a few strays in my house since I've been growing tobacco plants indoors. Maybe those of you who also grow and can chime in here - it's very noticeable over past years.

Riverboat Gambler in my favorite pipe with black coffee. Should be at work right now, but can't find my car key. Had to call in say I'd be late or missing today. Dumb reason not to be able to get to work, so I feel like crap now. Guess there ain't much to do now but puff on this pipe and try to relax on the porch.

I lose about a dozen things a day. Always seem to find them right in front of my nose. But keys can be the absolute worst. Sympathies.

Last Night's Smoke: needed a change of pace from break-ins of new toys, and did the retro thing. Backwoods Buttered-Rum in my favourite Bent Falcon, with a tobacco-dedicated Meer Lined Bowl.

Best smoke I've had in quite a while, rivaled only by a couple with Englishes in my Ashwood genre-dedicated McQueen Russet.

Skippable Drivel:

Still tastebud hampered by meds, but only another 3 weeks to go on this crap. I do get great solace from monochrome tobaccos, and the diamond ring in the pie is my newly discovered fondness for many of them, especially Borkum Riff Dark Cavendish, the Captain Black Dark, and a few simple English Blends. I don't get the full taste, but a sort of diluted one which is more than pleasant. 'Twill do, 'twill, 'twill.

Complex stuff not yet, but lookin' forward. to the day.

Likely won't be back 'till tomorrow. Bags and bags and bags of Saskatoons to freeze, and have to pick more cherries. This'll be going on for about another week, until a couple of friends and especially my sister Jan get back from their holidays. Not looking forward to almost inevitable stories about family squables, however . . . . :ROFLMAO: rotf

Near the first third of this bowl of year 2024 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Fed my cats, and am going to check on the ferals. Ice water and bergs is my drink. The heat index is 105 degrees.

It's latakia time, Stanislaw's Balkan. In a MM corn cob pipe. Iced coffee on the side. After a hall very hot week, temperature dropped several degrees to normal levels for this time of the year. If it was always like that, I would surely choose Summer as the eternal season for me, without exchanging with others. But the week before was really tough. A friend of mine who has travelled a lot, told me that the conditions were similar as in the Sinai desert, in Egypt. It seems like, with the climate change, the weather is jumping over Mediterranean Sea and moving from North Africa to Southern Europe... Who knows, maybe desert itself will follow... And what will happen then?
I guess: " Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be, the future's not ours to see....".
Sometimes I feel blessed to be a philosopher. Among many others here of course, it's the Land we live you see... :)

Found a Bic lighter in the park today. It works. Always happy when this happens.
