I'm thinking it's time to get rid of some of these bulky jars that are taking up so much valuable shelf space. What kind of Mylar is recommended for long term storage? How about vacuum sealing? Where do you get good deals on Mylar? What size bags do you use? Do they need to be heat sealed? How do you heat seal them? Do you use silica packs?...etc.

Use good 7mm bags, nothing lighter if you want long term storage (Plesant Grove Farms). I heat seal with an old clothing iron but a lot of people use a curling iron. I use pint and quart bags. I don’t vacuum bag and have not seen a need. Same for silica packs.
Exactly this.I buy mine on Amazon. Size depends on how much I want to store in each bag. Can't remember exactly but around 6" x 6" is pretty versatile.

And how does everyone store their mylar? Other than the stand up bags, they wouldn't stack as nicely as jars. Small totes?
The larger bags are gusseted, so they will stand up, and when I stack them I zigzag them.
BTW, we're referring to METALLIZED Mylar bags. Without the aluminized surface Mylar isn't impermeable. Each .1 mill layer gets coated and a .7 mil thickness is a laminate with 7 metallized layers, about as impermeable as it's possible to get. Go for food grade. Pheasant Grove is a good source, as is Mylar Pro. They offer slightly different product lines and ranges.

One thing I noticed on Amazon is if a bag is advertised as 9mm it's actually 4.5mm each side.
As I understand it the Pleasant Grove bags are 7mm per side and would therefore be 14mm bags on Amazon? That would explain the price premium.
(Also note that I'm finding better quality selection mylar on amazon.com vs amazon.ca, for what it's worth)

I still prefer jars but would like some Mylar to throw some open and jarred tobaccos into that aren't currently my jam to store for future years. Way too many jars and open tins here.

I'm not surprised. Amazon is a cesspool of misinformation and made up tripe from the various sellers on it. Wall thickness is wall thickness and a 7 layer laminate is .7 mill and that's the wall thickness. Screw Amazon's crappy standards and definitions.

But, you should know that the Earth is shaped like a cube.
