Cob Over Briar

I am just wondering if anyone ever preferred a cob over a briar. I own more briars than cobs but I smoke my cobs more than the briars

I really think that it's the whole package, not just the material, that makes me fond of a certain pipe. I really can't say that ALL briars are better than ALL cobs or vice versa.

I like cobs,I own one,probably but another one day.Good smoking instruments.Good flavor representation,good draw.I don't prefer them over briars.I prefer them along with briars.

I tried a cob once and didn't care for it. I like my stems to have certain features. I I also had quite a bit of money tied up in my pipe collection and saw no need to try something that for all accounts did not smoke better than my briars. I never regretted my decision as I am quite happy where my collection of briars is today.

If I could go back to when I first started smoking a pipe 53 yrs ago, I would only smoke cobs to this day. Since I can't do that, I do tend to smoke cobs over briars some days. It really depends on what blends I'll be smoking on any given day.

don't get me wrong I still enjoy the briars but everyday use I use my briars I guess it because I think I can use and abuse a cob and a briar I feel like I should be careful with

There is something about an ole rank cob that hits the spot. I do love some briars, but love most all my cobs. If I had to choose all over again, I’d go with a reliable MM. love Meers too!️

Never felt the need to try cob. Briar works fine for me.

I like the texture of a sandblasted briar, but definitely prefer cobs.

I’ve only got just over a month’s experience and my briars are not expensive so my opinion’s probably worth very little. Having said all that, I really like the unrestricted draw I get from the MM cobs and hardwoods I have, compared to the 3 briars I’ve tried so far. I also love the aesthetics.

I’m disappointed in myself really: I think I had plans to be a refined pipe smoker, pontificating over the merits of various English blends whilst gesturing with my Dunhill pipe but after a month, I seem to spend more time smoking strong Virginia/Burley blends with plum casings or similar, out of a Legend, Devil Cutty or Maple Country Gentleman.
