The Pipes Magazine Radio Show – Episode 314

Kevin Godbee
Thank you for joining us for The Pipes Magazine Radio Show—the only radio talk show for pipe smokers and collectors. We broadcast weekly, every Tuesday at 8 pm eastern USA time and are available on nearly all podcast sites and apps. Listen on your computer, tablet, phone and even in the car! Our featured interview tonight is with pipe maker John Inge. John has been making pipes since the early 1990s. Being completely self-taught, he approaches thing his own unique way. He can make standard shapes, but he much prefers the freehand styles, and has some amazing pipes that are really works of art. In Pipe Parts, Brian will describe several patents that were granted to Alfred Dunhill. Some of them are quite surprising, and even slightly amusing. Sit back, relax with your pipe, and enjoy The Pipes Magazine Radio Show!

Tonight’s show is sponsored by SmokingPipes.com, Cornell & Diehl, Missouri Meerschaum, and Savinelli Pipes and Tobaccos. Please give them some consideration when making your next pipe or tobacco purchase.

We hope you enjoy our 1-hour show produced just for you—the pipe smoker and collector. The following link will launch a pop-up player. Alternatively, you can download the show in iTunes and other podcast sites and apps after the initial broadcast is complete here.

  • Good show Brian! It’s interesting how some people just naturally understand how to do something, in John’s case that is making pipes. It sounds like you were really roughing it through the storm, not! Don’t mind me, that’s just my jealousy of you smoking 30 year old tobacco ha ha. The upcoming stories you mentioned have me waiting with great anticipation. As far as your rant goes, I’m with you. You can tell a lot about someone by how insensitive they are towards animals. Let me know if you need some help tying people up to telephone poles! Pleasant smokes!

  • Must be pretty nice to have a house guest who pays you in 30 year old 3 Nuns. That’s the original made in England stuff right!
John Inge seems like a nice fellow. Shame about the engineering to music to philosophy changes. That’s tough. He went from eminently employable to unemployed in one fell swoop. And he’s restoring an old Plymouth Valiant?? Why??
You can’t abandon your animals when times get tough. Either stay with them or take them with you. Even if you have a zillion of them. And don’t leave them in a locked cage.

  • On the show you’re always telling us to get out in public and smoke our pipes … today I’m walking and smoking during my lunch hour and walk past two little kids and their grandma.
Kid 1: (very excited) Look! I’ve seen one of those in a movie.
Kid 2: Yeah, it’s that old man thing!
    Grandma: It’s called a pipe.
