My grandfather didn't smoke a pipe, but my uncle and some of my elementary school teachers did. In 1998, my neighbor Sam invited me out, and we ended up back at his place where there was a cigar humidor, and pipe rack on the coffee table. I had my first cigar, and then decided to try pipes too. I love the elegance and relaxation of smoking a pipe. In 2002, I started learning how to make websites, do SEO, and create content. I had a cigar content site and forums from 2005-2008 when it was bought out. In 2009, I launched PipesMagazine.com, which is now the largest, busiest community forums, and article content site for pipe and tobacco enthusiasts. We have one of the longest running pipe and tobacco focused podcasts since 2012 with lifetime industry veteran, Brian Levine.

Dorisco is a blend that I just can’t get into. I found it bland and off-putting.
The interview was pleasant enough. Steve seemed like a nice person who really didn’t know much about pipes except that he liked them and that’s good enough for me. I can’t understand how positively he views the world. It looks to me like its going to hell-in-a-hand-basket.
Steve sounds like a real nice guy, and it’s a shame smoking has such a stigma in religious circles. I didn’t get around to answering your request a few weeks ago on where our favorite place to smoke is. My favorite place to smoke is in my home office/smoking room. It took years of convincing but I convinced my wife a few years ago and it’s so nice year round.
Brian,
I’m glad you got to interview Steve. He is a nice, non condemning, freedom loving guy. I’ve known about him for many years but never knew much about his pipe smoking. Turns out there is not a lot to know. He is like a lot of “old timers”, they like to smoke pipes and know what they like but don’t get into them like many of us do. I’ve heard that C.S. Lewis used to crush up cigarettes and cram them into his pipe. I guess these theologians have many other things to consider than what to smoke. I did enjoy the interview. It’s amazing how inclusive and diverse the pipe community is. It was neat to hear that Steve got R.C. Sproul into pipes.
The music selection was a great tribute to Independence Day.
