Thank you for joining us for The Pipes Magazine Radio Show—the only radio talk show for pipe smokers and collectors. We broadcast weekly, every Tuesday at 8 pm eastern USA time and are available on nearly all podcast sites and apps. Listen on your computer, tablet, phone and even in the car! Our Featured Interview tonight is with Ben Rapaport. Ben is a renowned author of 8-books and about 200 articles about pipes and tobaccos, and he is still writing new articles. Ben also has a vast knowledge of Meerschaum pipes. Meerschaums have a deep history, and Ben has studied them for about 50-years, so we’ll tie this into our opening discussion. Sit back, relax with your pipe, and enjoy The Pipes Magazine Radio Show!

Tonight’s show is sponsored by SmokingPipes.com, Cornell & Diehl, and Savinelli Pipes and Tobaccos. Please give them some consideration when making your next pipe or tobacco purchase.

We hope you enjoy our 1-hour show produced just for you—the pipe smoker and collector. The following link will launch a pop-up player. Alternatively, you can download the show in iTunes and other podcast sites and apps after the initial broadcast is complete here.

  • What a treat this show was. Ben is just a fountain of knowledge regarding antique meerschaum pipes. At 82 Ben doesn’t have much time left so we better get hopping and see how many of us can squirrel away some of the knowledge he has. I really enjoyed this show.
I know what you mean when you complain about nothing on labels telling us what’s inside. I have tins of tobacco that if you didn’t know better you wouldn’t have a clue as to what’s in it.

  • Thanks Brian and Ben for an absolutely delightful and informative discussion.
While I enjoy and am amazed by the interest and work of younger collectors and carvers, people such as Mr. Rapaport, who are the touchstones of our shared community, must be sought out, learned from and listened to.

  • Great show. Its nice to know that the pipes i bought 40 years ago were average quility and carved. But for under $25 they were a sreal. All of them still smoke great

  • I still haven’t gotten around to smoking a meerschaum pipe, so it was nice to have such a thorough crash course in them. I laughed quite loudly at the mention of that Tinder Box page misrepresenting Meer, as I once found that site and couldn’t believe that they had that misinformation up publicly. I definitely need to check out some of Ben’s articles. The music, and the further backstory to the artist, was great this week. Thanks for another great show.
