Thank you for joining us for The Pipes Magazine Radio Show—the only radio talk show for pipe smokers and collectors. We broadcast weekly, every Tuesday at 8 pm eastern USA time and are available on nearly all podcast sites and apps. Listen on your computer, tablet, phone and even in the car! Our Featured Interview tonight is with Rande Reed. Rande is the Master Brewer at Snoqualmie Falls Brewery in Washington state. He is also a musician and a pipe smoker. We will feature his music tonight as well. He tells us; "I feel very fortunate to be one of those few individuals that can honestly say that they truly enjoy what they do for a living. And I look forward to each and every day at the brewery!" In "Pipe Parts", we will continue with some more historic TV commercials for pipe tobacco from back in the good old days when advertising tobacco on TV was still legal. Sit back, relax with your pipe, and enjoy The Pipes Magazine Radio Show!
Tonight’s show is sponsored by Sutliff-Tobacco.com, CupOJoes.com, SmokingPipes.com, Missouri Meerschaum, 4noggins.com, Cornell & Diehl, and Savinelli Pipes and Tobaccos. Please give them some consideration when making your next pipe or tobacco purchase.
We hope you enjoy our 1-hour show produced just for you—the pipe smoker and collector. The following link will launch a pop-up player. Alternatively, you can download the show in iTunes and other podcast sites and apps after the initial broadcast is complete here.

Most interesting podcast in a while, I even liked the music. Unfortunately video as audio doesn’t come across all that well (but at least we have the links).
Why doesn’t anyone every interview Rick Hacker? Is he not approachable, does he charge for interviews? He was a pretty big deal in the pipe community at one time but haven’t heard much from him in a while.
Is this a possibility?
Good show again Brian,
I like the adverts, some worked some not so much. The end of the Benson and Hedges advert I think the voice over guy says Nation not Meershaum.
Rande was very interesting, although I personally have no interest in beer his passion had me caught up in the conversation and I attempted to keep up.
Music was good, and the only thing I would add to your rant is that when episode 4 came out no one had imagined Siri or computers speaking (I know that doesn’t explain c3po)

Hi Brian,
I won’t be shooting you a message, but if you ever get to Pittsburgh…
RE: pipe smoking advertisements, those were the days my friend…
You brought another one out of the woodwork, Rande Reed. His work and interests are quite varied. I am not a beer drinker, but my daughter is so into the craft/micro beer scene. The beer part was interesting, but I would have liked a bit more on pipes and tobacco.
Music – Rande Reed’s piece “Dark Black Night” was good. I liked the tale it told.
Rant – I only saw the first Star Wars film when it came out and none of the others. I may see this new one when it comes out on DVD. Droids should have a voice, period. I wonder how that point fell through the crack?
nice show.
The commercials were interesting.
Rande’s musical journey was interesting. Like many people I am super envious of people who seemingly can play anything while I struggle to play the radio. I am not much of a beer drinker in either quality or quantity so brewing beer is not a hot topic to me, but to each his own. He certainly has had an interesting brewing career. Glad to hear of his support for American carvers.
The Droid voice thing has never bothered me. I guess I see it as giving the Droid his own signature style.
Hi Brian ,
Nice show. Keep those commercials coming! I also thing the last one was a big mistake. Saying: “Even the Meerschaum could make a comeback” after talking about the shapes people didn’t use anymore totally gives the idea that pipe smoking (at the time) was in decline and the probability of it coming back was considered to be very a small one. Bad commercial, it advertises the opposite of what is intended.
Like the interview. I love craft beers. I wish I could find a beer with some sort of tobacco infusion.
Rant – It’s a fantasy after all. Even if the robot spoke through telepathy it would still be ok, I guess. (Although ridiculous, haha)
Music, that was quite fun to hear. Rande is Definitely a renaissance guy!
