Leonard Wortzel, Vice President of Marketing & Product Development, Lane STG
HI Kevin,
It’s just not the same voice….must be because he is farther south. Or,,,the windscreen on the microphone is clogged up…a bit more bassy.
Lane limited is a well known name in the pipe community. Lane 1Q is a blend many of us started with on our pipe journey. I am impressed with Leonard banjo’s playing. I have been taking lessons for about 9 months and the amount of coordination required is amazing and the progress is slow. Bringing back Crown Achievement was one of Leonard’s Crowning Achievements. My solution to CVSs’ discontinuance of tobacco products is not to shop at CVS. I would like to see you introduce/re-introduce a nice mature virginia tobacco. Not everyone smokes English/aromatic blends of tobacco.
Nice music selection. I didn’t know you were a bass player and vocalist. You see, you really learn something new on this program. Nice touch!
Rant – I agree with the rant.
Good show Kevin. You may want to sit in for Brian again but put more of your own touch into it. Between the two of you, you have a good thing going!
Thanks John! I’m glad you enjoyed the show even though I am quite different than Brian. It was fun doing it, and who knows, maybe I will do another one sometime. It could happen as Brian’s travel schedule has increased. Thanks for being our most loyal listener.
I enjoyed the show and Brian does deserve a week off. Too bad he isn’t vacationing.
I really enjoyed the interview with Leonard. It is great to hear about long standing companies with great histories. I love the story about Crown Achievement. The story posted on the site was excellent and it was cool to hear about it from Leonard too. I look forward to Lane’s new releases next year.
The music was fun to listen to. I can imagine a mullet wearing bassist. You did have hair back then, didn’t you?
I too agree with the rant. It seems that common courtesy is not so common anymore.
Great job, Kyle….Keith….Kenny…SHIT! Kevin!
Ha ha ha, RiffRaff! Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the show. I did kind of have a mullet back then, but would tease out the top, ala Duran Duran style.
Just a great interview with Leonard. It was a kick to listen to his fairly optimistic view of the future as opposed other people’s “doom & gloom” scenarios. As you know we have a local fellow who could find the down side in the Second Coming. Leonard does have the advantage over some in that he is in the pipe tobacco business. I am sure that if he was a “roll-your-own” seller he would be a lot more concerned.
Loved the short discussion on bluegrass. Traditional, straight ahead bluegrass is my musical home base. Unfortunately Steve Martin’s picking uses the melodic style and his band plays the contemporary stuff both of which I loathe.
Since I have never hit a musical note in my life, either instrumentally or vocally, I must remain silent on the music selection.
I am in 100% agreement on the rant. You forgot the person who doesn’t realize he/she has to pay for the merchandise until after the cashier has completed the ring up process. At that point they begin the process of searching for their money/checkbook/credit card and probably their frequent buyer card as well. “Express Lane” is merely a euphemism.
Thrilled to have my question included in this interview, and more to the point, was well informed as to why various burleys are included in Lanes Burley Without Bite. I do appreciate it!
Kevin,
The interview was good. Really good. Lots of info, nice side info about Bluegrass, which I love listening. “You can learn anything if you study 3 hours a day for some time”. This is the kind of advice that really helps! Music – nice choice. Brian hit it again. Rant, you are so right! Same thing here in Brazil. I thought it was a local problem, it seems to be an international one. Now, regarding you as a host, I was not convinced. Was, how should I put it… to “square”, not to enthusiastic. I think it would be good to have both of you hosting the show at the same time instead.
lonesomepiper – Thanks for listening and commenting. I’m glad you enjoyed the show overall. Regarding me as the host, I was trying to make sure I didn’t imitate Brian, and wanted to just be myself. The two of use did co-host for the 1-year anniversary show. September 19, 2013, Episode 53. Check it out.
Congrats on the 2nd show anniversary. Interesting music selection, very much “The Wedding Singer”. However I also was an 80’s child and get it, as I styled my look after Miami Vice back then. LOL!
Nice work Kevin! I really enjoyed the Lane interview. I’d also like to add: la, la la la la.la la la la la, la la la lala, la la la la.la la la la la, la la la la
Ha ha ha! Thanks Voorhees and Al!
