  • Another great visit with Jon David. The new Country Squire sounds amazing. I really enjoyed the fabulous customer stories you guys shared. And yes, it’s true that our pipeshops, for the most part, are wonderfully warm, welcoming and considerate places.
    Loved the Christmas doggie tales.
The Music City Mass Choir’s version of “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” was absolutely jubilant!
Your closing “Let There Be Peace on Earth” merits a second Amen.
As usual, a thoroughly entertaining show. Thanks.
    Merry New Year!

  • I wanted to take a moment to really thank Jon David, you, and the wider tobacco community, and it’s hard to do that without making a long drawn out post, suffice it to say that what he (and you) said about adopted customers really resonated with me. I was, once, one of those people. And still am to a certain degree. Not in terms of addiction. But I don’t have many friends. Never did. Still don’t. Mostly due to extreme social anxiety and mild depression. Not just on an introvert level. I genuinely used to think (and still do on some level) that I wasn’t interesting or worth talking to. It’s something I have struggled with for most of my adult life.

But I am proud to call JDC among the select few I’ve bonded with over the years even if I’m a few hours away and we don’t get to hang out nearly as much as I’d like.

What I’m alluding to is that in 2016 when I effectively started my pipe tobacco journey, I hopped on the podcast train and started listening to CSR (and eventually your show). Something about Jon David and Beau felt approachable, and when I realized where the Country Squire was in relation to New Orleans, it was an easy decision to go check it out. What followed was an acceptance and feeling of brotherhood I have never ever felt anywhere before or since. Shops like the Country Squire and people like Jon David are really, really special. When you’re able to look at anyone and see a person, even if they’re struggling with all manner of things, and treat them with respect and kindness in spite of their shortcomings and personal problems, well…that is so, so admirable. It’s hard to put into words how much I love and respect him, you Brian, and anyone who is welcoming in such a small and special community. It’s literally made me feel like I *am* worth something in times where I might not have otherwise.

I’ll leave it at that. God bless you both.
