Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 644

Welcome to The Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 644. Our featured interview tonight is with Jay Furman. Jay is the co-host of the Pipe and Tamper podcast. He is a long-time member of the pipe community. He started smoking pipes in the 1980s, and owns hundreds of pipes and hundreds of pounds of pipe tobacco. His first pipe shopping experience was at Wally Frank, a famous New York chain of shops, also nationally known for their large mail order catalog business. Jay loves artisan pipes as well as health and fitness. Brian and Jay will have an extended conversation that will preempt the Pipe Parts segment. We will still have music, mailbag, and rant.

    • I thoroughly enjoyed this long interview with Jay, particularly the discussion relating to pipemakers and the way they approach their craft. While I appreciate his eclectic exploration of pipes and tobaccos, I abhor his pipe maintenance routine or rather lack thereof. Does he wash his dishes after a meal, or just return them to the cabinet? How does Jay get the maximum taste experience of a new tobacco from a pipe that may be “ghosted” by a previous smoke? Ugh!
Stephen Wilson Jr.’s song “Father’s Søn” was wonderful and quite powerful. Thanks for sharing this new artist with us.
The “downs” inform the “ups”, and both are threads of the fabric in a balanced life.
      Another always entertaining show, thanks.
