Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 625

Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 625

Welcome to The Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 625. Our featured interview tonight is with Eric DeVito. Eric is a 26-year old pipe smoker from Chicago, recently moved to Arizona. His interview is part of our ongoing series of pipe smokers that are under the age of 30. He’s been smoking a pipe for 8 years. Pipes have always appealed to him since he was 5-years old when he went with his dad to visit his Uncle Al. The two men smoked cigars on this visit, but he saw his uncle’s pipe rack and never forgot about it. He brought his intrigue to fruition when he was 18 years old and started smoking pipes. At the top of the show, we’ll have an “Ask the Pipemaker” segment with pipe artisan Jeff Gracik, and  this time the question comes from Brian.

  • Your question and Jeff’s answer made for an interesting and revealing view of how a craftsman “clears his mind” with another hobby or focus.
Eric seems to be movin’ right along in his pipe journey. He has kind of a similar backstory as do many of your under 30 guests. It’s nice that his soon-to-be wife is a smoking partner and a tobacco growing enthusiast. I enjoyed the “Ask Brian” segment. (And, Yay! CPCC shout-out.)
Randy’s music suggestion of One Puff Jackson’s “Puffin’ Billy Blues” was a nice down-home Blues.
Greeks are deep into honey. I, too, love honey and peanut butter, by themselves and together.
    Thanks for a fun show.

  • Jeff really stepped up and showed another side to himself with his love of cycling. The only thing remotely bad about it is the numbers of them who get turned into organ donors. Cars and cycles aren’t meant for the same streets.
Eric was a decent guest. A couple of the pipes he mentioned owning seemed really nice. Interesting that he has his wife trying pipe smoking. Hopefully he will stick with pipe smoking. So many of us take our 30’s and 40’s off to smoke cigars.
I was almost shocked by Randy’s suggestion of One Puff Jackson choice of “Puffin’ Billy Blues”. I figured that it was another comedy routine, but I was totally surprised by how enjoyable a piece of rhythm and blues it was. Kudos!!
Hmmm, peanut butter and honey, huh. I’ve got to be one of the few humans on earth who doesn’t like honey. I know it sounds weird, but I only have one taste bud. Peanut butter is best served on bread with Welch’s grape jelly on the other slice.
