Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 619

Welcome to The Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 619. Our featured interview tonight is with Corey Hays. Corey is a 26-year old pipe smoker that is part of our ongoing series of pipe smokers that are under the age of 30. He is from Mississippi and has never lived more than 20-minutes away from The Country Squire Tobacconist. He was influenced to smoke a pipe by reading J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and 20th Century American History. He has been smoking pipes for three years. At the top of the show, Brian will have a tobacco review of a special tobacco that you could only get a pipe show.

  • Your review of C&D High-Roller Flake made it sound quite tasty.
Cory was an interesting guest, incredibly far into his pipe journey, with some very mature insights. A rather philosophical Q&A.
I really dug “Digee Dime” by Burlap to Cashmere. Great beat!
(You did very well on the pronunciation of the names.)
Some nice observations on the coming Olympic coverage.
    Thanks for a fun show.

  • The review of C&D High Roller was rather could but does illustrate the problem that you have with limited editions. One shot and they’re done. That is why I rarely buy them. We had a number of these of the old KC Pipe Show that were done for us by Mike McNiel. Those rarely sold out but that’s how it goes.
Corey was reasonably good guest who is progressing nicely in his pipe journey. It must be really nice to have the Country Squire just down the road a ways. It has to be nice to have people that close to you who really know tobaccos and pipes. I do hope he is economically well off in the future to pursue some $300-$600 pipes. They are a lot of great carvers out there with prices in that range.
    “Digee Dime” was fairly good.
I generally liked your review of the upcoming Olympics. I don’t think that the Olympics should have soccer, tennis, golf, and such because they are on all the time, and they just take away time that we could be learning about the less well-known events.
