Welcome to The Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 406! Our featured interview tonight is with Fred Hanna. Fred has a PhD. and teaches at the Chicago Campus at Adler University. He is also author of the book, The Perfect Smoke. This show is our seventh and final in a series of “Seven Questions for Seven Experts”. Over the course of seven weeks, we have been asking seven prominent pipe collectors the same seven pipe related questions, and see how their answers compare. At the top of the show, for our pipe parts segment, we will have Ask the Pipemaker with Jeff Gracik, specifically on horned stems. Sit back, relax with your pipe, and enjoy The Pipes Magazine Radio Show!

Fred Hanna Interview
It was great to hear, my friend, Fred’s take on the 7 Questions. It was the perfect wrap-up of this series. Both erudite and droll, Fred provided answers that were not only informative and entertaining, but quite thought-provoking.
I have, and smoke, an A.D.P. pipe that is nearly 130 years old, with a horn stem. I have yet to find any taste influence from the horn material, even though I am often an aggressive puffer.
I really enjoyed the upbeat “Heaven” by Los Lonely Boys. And, like Mick, I like Jojo’s bass work.
Community coffee, the stuff Jim Amash mainlines. A wonderful old-style coffee with absolutely no pretentions.
Thanks again for an always entertaining show.

I was listening to the streaming of Rochester Jazz 90.1 this afternoon while reading, and caught a partial I.D. of a song that had just played. Seems it was titled “Prince Albert.”
Great show. Fred, as always was the consummate guest. He expresses his in opinions in a way that just doesn’t seem to threaten yours. One thing I do miss about not going to pipe shows any more is not getting a chance to talk to Fred.
