Peterson Sunset Breeze – Pipe Tobacco Reviews

Peterson Sunset Breeze Pipe Tobacco Tin

When I opened this tin I was greeted by a strong yet nice sweet aroma of Amaretto. I also picked up some slight hints of chocolate, caramel, and vanilla. The moisture level was a little on the moist side, as it is with most aromatics. And just like with most aromatics, I would suggest some drying time for the tobacco.

I loaded up my pipe and performed the charring light. I am greeted by the sweet smell of amaretto from the tobacco, it is very pleasant. It is almost reminiscent of the aroma from an amaretto flavored coffee. I settled in for the smoke.

At the beginning of the bowl, I am picking up on a little bit of the amaretto flavoring of the tobacco. I can tell right away that this tobacco could probably bite pretty badly if pushed, so I recommend sipping the pipe instead of puffing on it. By sipping on the pipe, I am able to taste the amaretto flavor. It is light, but it is there. I got a pretty good taste of it right at the beginning and then it lightened up a lot.

For the sake of this review, I pushed it a little and it didn’t take much to start feeling that little sting and I backed off. I lost almost all of the amaretto taste and the smoke started getting hot. I had to slow it back down to start tasting the flavor again. Maybe it requires a little more drying time than I gave it. I did dry it out so it was not clumping together when squeezed, but it could have been dried out some more. This is a blend that needs to be smoked slowly.

At about the half way point I started losing a lot of the amaretto taste even though the aroma of the smoke still had the smell. It was still sweet tasting, just not as much amaretto. It faded in and out for the rest of the bowl. This is a true aromatic. What I mean by that is that I couldn’t taste hardly any tobacco taste, just the sweetness and amaretto flavoring. It is built of quality tobacco though and quality flavoring. With a lot of cheaper aromatics it has been my experience that even though the room note smells good and stays during the whole smoke, the flavor lasts only as far as about the first 1/4 of the bowl. Sometimes it is gone after the charring light. This is not the case with Sunset Breeze.

With a lot aromatics, the flavor does not transfer through to the smoke; but even though the flavor is not nearly as strong as the tin aroma is in this blend, you can still taste some of the amaretto taste in the smoke. The taste gets lighter the farther down the bowl you get, but you still get a taste of it through at least 3/4 of the bowl. After a couple of bowls in the same pipe, the flavor lasts all the way through to the end for me. It also did not turn bitter towards the end like a lot of the cheaper aromatics tend to do. It has a sweet finish. If you like aromatics and the flavor and smell of amaretto, this one is worth a try. I Recommend it.
